Most states have a couple different approaches. You might find what you need here.

Pennsylvania vehicle laws are LOTS OF FUN!!
That is one of the reasons I left Pa for more hot rod friendly States. I understand it is better than it used to be, but still no picnic.

Thanx for all your reply's guy's, I guess my big ? was, was about the purchaseing of the motor for a hotrod or streetrod. I wasnt sure if the reciept had to show that the motor came from a buddy, mechine shop, or some place like Summit racing or what ever. I have the oppertunity to get a complete 84 350sbc from a guy down the street from me, thats out of an 84 passenger van for a fare price. But all he can offer me as far as a reciept goes is, is one that looks like a rent reciept. I was just curious about what info the DMV needed about the motor so they will ok it.

If I were in your shoes, I would call the DMV and ask them about the receipt.
Usually, a hand-written or printed receipt describing the item, the date purchased, the buyer, the seller, and the price will work. Sometimes they must be notarized. However, PA seems to be way overboard on this stuff. Call someone @ DMV before you spend $$ on a motor you may not be able to use.Jack

Yeah, i called the special sevices unit at the DMV here in PA, and what she told me was. I need to have reciepts for every piece that goes on the car, to show that i payed the sales tax or not. The motor i have in my gerage which i have 5G's invested, can not be used simply because i dont have the vin# from the vehicle that it came out of, so they know whether or not it's been stolen. She said that if i purchace a motor from anyone, that my name, and the salers name, and the vin# from the vehicle from which it came from, along with the #'s from the block must be on the reciept. Or the application could be rejected.

Been getting the truck back together. Painted the wheels and got the tires mounted. Went with 235 55 17 all around. Too cheap.to chrome so I painted the bumper and hood emblem with some silver I had...
