In any case, real glad to hear that your nephew was able to walk away. As to the engine cut off question, I would think that should have happened, but depending on the nature of the damage, it's possible that the function was blocked electronically.

It was not a serious accident and whether or not the crumple zones did their job I would not argue. It just seems wrong that a car is still running, or more importantly that the fuel system is still pressured up after the bags have deployed. I unserstand this car may nor have an inertia switch.
I'll still take an old car with a good dose of common sense over a new car designed to help someone without any survive.
