    crispy Hemi question

Night before last my nephew lost his Chrylser. I think it was an 06 or 07. He basically lost control on a gravel road and pegged a tree, then it burned up.
He says it was still running after the crash and the air bags had popped He did shut it off but he couldn't get the hood open and saw sparks and stuff then the fire started small. He was able to disconnect the battery but it was too late by then.
Is it right that it could still be running after the air bags deployed? Or after an impact? I know of Ford's inertia switch, not familiar at all with Chryslers but that just seems wrong, I mean this car was so over engineered with skid control and idiot proof stuff you couldn't even do a broadie with it but yet the engine doesn't even die and the fuel system stays pressured up after a crash???
One more reason to drive old cars.

Maybe, but most likely had he been in a old car, he may not have survived an accident like that. After all they had no air bags nor crumple zones. In fact, an old car might just be one large crumple zone.

In any case, real glad to hear that your nephew was able to walk away. As to the engine cut off question, I would think that should have happened, but depending on the nature of the damage, it's possible that the function was blocked electronically.

It was not a serious accident and whether or not the crumple zones did their job I would not argue. It just seems wrong that a car is still running, or more importantly that the fuel system is still pressured up after the bags have deployed. I unserstand this car may nor have an inertia switch.
I'll still take an old car with a good dose of common sense over a new car designed to help someone without any survive.

chrysler uses a rollover switch and not a inertia switch.. if he had rolled it over, it would have tripped..
