Ceh383 wrote:Never really envied you guys from the West coast, and do even less these days. Seems like everytime gas/oil goes up, it goes up in CA first. Just filled my 34 up Monday at $3.96 premium. Yesterday same gas was $4.05 for prem (reg.$3.79) Now crude is up to $130, so I guess regular gas will be up to $4.00 by the end of the week.Heck, I paid $4.09 last week for premium.....It's $4.17 this morning
I can retire anytime but wife still needs to go to work (80 miles/day) so I might as well go too (we work in the same complex) unitl she is ready to retire. Right now it's costing about $70/week in gas. Good thing is that the jobs pay well, otherwise it would be a whole lot tougher, with tough decisions to make.

I think I'm gonna find a good ol' Studebaker round fender truck and put a modern EFI V-8 with AOD in it along with appropriate creature comforts. Build it as a driver, then find a comfortable little Civic or other such economy car to drive daily. That gives me a good cool truck when I need one, but one I can park when I don't. I only drive about 15 miles a day during the week, but am using my '01 Silverado to do it. Can't see replacing it with a new little car. Or maybe I'll just keep driving the Chevy. It's paid for and gets 16 mpg around town.
PatOf course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

There was just a story on the local news about a computer repair business that has converted all of it's diesel trucks to run on used cooking oil. They made a deal with some restaurant chain to swap computer repairs of all the old cooking oil the restaurant no longer needs.
I see lots of posts everywhere from people who are starting to think of converting cars to propane and other alternative fuels. I asked the guy at UPS yesterday how this was affecting their costs, and he said they have increased prices by 30 percent and are going to go even higher.
Glad I bought my little moped.

Actually that picture reminds me of a guy I used to work with years ago. He had a little 100cc Honda he rode about 20 miles to work most days. He was about that size, too.
I had a full dressed Gold Wing that I used follow him with, and he always told me to not follow too closely because people would see his bike, then mine and laugh at his. Said it was embarassing.
I might have to put $99 down on one of those new Smartfortwo mini cars. Good safety rating, same mpg as a Gold Wing (40 mpg), better roll cage protection, and half the price @ $11,600 fully loaded.
Either that or find me a nice little used Honda Insight (2 seater 68 mpg hwy).
Of courrse, what I really need to do is win the lottery, retire, move to Ft. Myers, and borrow Don's "hog" when I need to pick things up from the store.

Well here diesel is $4.70 a gal. costs me about $130 a week for fuel and I don't go anywhere else. Decided to skip all the car shows it would cost to much to haul the camper and pull the trailer ,plus miss work. I don't think its worth all the money. I'm thinking about selling my 32 just so I don't have to spend more for fuel.

Well it cost me $50 to fill up the tank of my little Sunfire. I am restricting travel somewhat but I will need to commute every day in June, July and August for a round trip of about 26 miles so that is slightly over 1 gallon per day. Why is the Bush Administration getting blamed for this? As I recall Bill Clinton vetoed the bill for drilling in ANWR and the obstructionist D-party has continued to block drilling and other energy policies but today had the nerve to grill oil company execs and blame them! Experts keep saying there is oil on U.S. soil as well as a lot of coal and natural gas but environmental issues keep blocking exploration. I admit coal mining is dangerous and coal is dirty but there is natural gas and petroleum untapped in the U.S. but environmental issues keep blocking development. There has to be a compromise, cleaner production sure, but keep exploring; paint future ANWR oil equipment white so it won't offend the caribou!

Oil just went to $ 135 a barrel today, so hang on to your wallets.
Gas here jumped 10 cents a gallon from yesterday. $ 5 a gallon is right around the corner.

As for natural gas , they have come in on private property cut in roads and set up gas wells and don't have to pay the owners one red cent . From what I see the Bush Administration can do just about anything it wants , but thats just my opinion .

I check in everyday and some are better than others. I don't think Brent has anything to do with the forum anymore, but I'm not sure. Hopefully as time moves on the forum will get better.
Where is everybody?
