Think I'll call them up at Toyota and tell them I'll buy a Tundra if they agree to cut the number of commercials in half!!!!

Waaa!
Geez guys you are getting to watch a race live, or nearly live for free! Or for whatever you pay for cable or satellite at least. If you went to the track figure out how much that would cost you, plus you would still miss parts of the race when you went to pee or buy one of those $8-12 sammiches or a glass of beer. You gotta pay the price of admission somehow, I guess commercial are it. Remember not too long ago there might have been 2-3 races a year on TV tops, and no Internet, so you did not even know who won unless your local paper might carry the results the next day. And like someone said, watching those cars go round in circles when nothing is happening is boring anyway, and you know if something good happens during commercial they will replay it eleventy seven times from every angle when the commercial is over. I usually DVR record the NHRA drag races for the same reason. Then I can skip over the stuff I don't want to watch and finish a 3 hour show in half the time. Less couch potato time taking away from my projects.
PatOf course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

What's more scary is that the average time the race was being shown was 3.65 minutes. (There were 22 "gaps" between commercials where the race was on screen. Total race time on screen was 80 minutes.)
Horsepower TV and Musclecar are worse, I think. I swear that they do 5 minutes of show, then five minutes of commercial. Of course, most of the "show" part of the show is commercials also.Last edited by Henry Rifle; 03-17-2008 at 04:04 PM.

Horsepower and Muscle Car( I miss LOU) have gotten worse, way too many commercials and nothing for the average rodder, they act like all us viewers have fat wallets and a dyno in the Garage they need to get real.

I looked in on one of those shows a couple of weeks ago - I really do not want to be shouted at by a car show host about all his "good work"(advertisement). There's much more not to like, but another forum worked them over pretty well tho had nothing to do with my not watching those shows.Dave W

I find these shows (Horsepower TV) to be alot like "This Old House" & New Yankee Workshop" , I'm sure alot of us could create objects d'art if we had every tool known to man. Yet, I'd still watch'em just to see the possibilities. I still enjoy them for what they are. Basically a commercial for Jeg's / Summit / Edelbrock / whoever.... And I think that's okay, it's an outlet to see some new technologies and techniques.

I really liked the Musclecar show when Lou Santiago was on there. He did some great fabrication and wasn't just bolting on expensive parts. I also miss Stacey from Trucks for the same reason. He had/has another show called Gearz, but I have trouble finding that one.

My wife wanted me to turn on one of her favorite tv shows a couple of nights ago. It was to start at 9 PM so she asked me to change the channel at about 8:58. I told her there was no point because of the commercials on the lead in. She didn't believe me until she sat through 10 uninterrupted minutes of commercials before the show actually started at 9:11. She was pissed. So in reality the average one hour show that used to be about 45 minutes long is now just 35 minutes in total. At this rate, I can see a TIVO in my future.

What some of the shows do is give you a 5 or so minute "update" from last weeks show. The one regular show that I do watch is Survivor. At least 5 minutes is wasted there with the "previously" BS before they go into the first 5 minute commercial. So - I just use my VCR and fast forward (too cheap to invest in TiVo with at least 4 VCR/DVD combos including one in the camper)
