It's too late. This country is on a slippery slope downhill from which there is no recovery. Those who can vote in this country have discovered they can vote themselves the keys to the treasury via electing socialists. It's only a matter of time until we experience the straw that broke the camel's back, the point where there are more taking from the trough than there are filling the trough and then we're done. I predict a revolution after the collapse of government. Invest your money in powder and lead and put aside some gold and silver in small denomination coins. You'll need it to buy food, because paper money will be worthless. Yeah, like it's worth much right now!!!!

While I'm fired up, I'll continue. Nobody owns property in this country. If you think you own your home, just stop paying taxes on it and you'll find out who owns it. A friend of mine has a 3 acre parcel in Maricopa County. He must pay the county $850 each month if he plans to continue to "own" the property. The money is re-distributed to those who suck off the public trough.

Get a job?? There are few good paying jobs left in this country. Our leaders have allowed technology to be scarfed up by other countries. Even the few manufacturing firms that are left are being taxed at a rate that precludes their products from being competitive in a world market. Manufacturing is where true wealth is created. You don't create wealth by flipping hamburgers. Right after WWII, America was the strongest country on the planet. Dad worked a decent paying job and mom stayed home to raise the kids. If they misbehaved, dad took a belt to their bottom and they straightened up. Now, there are few jobs that dad can work that will pay all the bills, so mom has to work too. Or dad was just a sperm donor who lives somewhere else and couldn't care less. Even if there is a dad at home, he can't spank the kids anymore because if he does, Social Services will be at the door trying to take the kids away. That leaves the kids to fend for themselves and be subject to the teachings and behavior of the lowest common denominator. Doing drugs, ditching school, etc.

And there are actually people who think government makes money!!!! NOW HEAR THIS, PEOPLE; GOVERNMENT MAKES NO MONEY. They get their money via taxing those who toil to make money. As I said above, when the number of toilees exceeds the number of toilers, we're done.Last edited by techinspector1; 03-09-2008 at 02:01 PM.

I'm normally a pretty "bottle half full" kind of person........I always look for the bright side of things. But I am frankly more concerned about our futures than I have ever been in my life. The economy is only a small part of it, but it affects us all. In the last year I don't think I have talked to one person who is better off today than they were two years ago. Every forum I go on I see guys posting that they are getting laid off or are considering moving because they can't make it where they are.

Sure, there are exceptions, but I am talking about the bulk of the people who live paycheck to paycheck. Home forclosures are at record highs, oil is now over $ 100 per barrel, and jobs are getting scarce.

I sure as h*** hope whoever moves into the Whitehouse has the ability to turn this thing around........I don't care what race or sex he or she might be, just so they know what they are doing. We need help out here, no doubt about it.

You know the old saying. "We are in a recession when YOU are out of work, and we are in a depression when I am out of work."

That's the number one problem, thinking that government, be it the Pres, or Congress, or whoever/whatever, will solve anything. As Richard pointed out, all they can do is live off the teat of producing citizens. They only have the power to get in the way with onorous regulation, whether by good intention or not. No President ever created a good economy despite many trying to take credit for it, all they can do is either get in the way, or out of the way, and I don't here much from any of the current candidates that even remotely resembles getting OUT of the way. I totally disagree that the President has little ability to fix things. Much of it depends on his reputation and the respect he commands from Congress and leaders of other countries. How they see him is how they see us.

Also, I am not an economist, but I do know that any time you buy more than you sell you are going to be in trouble. Right now America buys a lot more than we sell to others, which affects the value of our dollar and our ability to put people to work here.

We need to quit meddling in other peoples business and concentrate of the problems we have here at home. We think nothing of sending billions to other countries or dropping mega buck bombs on others, but millions of people at home here are without healthcare and too many children go to bed hungry at night. Call me an idealist, but it just doesn't add up to me.

Socialist?? I have to respectfully disagree. The right wing has been in control for over a decade now(congress, senate, presisdential office for almost 8 years). Oil was $32 a barrel in 2000 when the "oil men" took office, now it's $104- and climbing! Socilaist no, fascist- yes. Right wing, corporate leaning, worker crushing republicans- but they let you keep your guns so you THINK you have some power... And since the Democrats have controlled Congress for the last couple of years why haven't they stopped the spiraling oil prices? Originally Posted by MT79 Originally Posted by MT79Ken Thomas

One reason, and I'm by far no expert in case you didn't notice hah, is b/c they don't have the numbers YET to fight the fillibuster the Repubs use when they try and change policy. Another reason is that little "war" that keeps dragging on over there making things less stable in the region which drives up oil prices and there is also an increase in demand through out the world for oil(China, India). Oh yeah, that and the Dems overall are kind of spinless when push come to shove in my opinion. There are still a couple "good ones" on both sides Dems and Repubs- though not many.
