    Fuel Pump In Tank

I own 2-2003 Chevy Cavaliers. Fuel pump went in one and other on it's way. Can you drop this tank on stands or needs done lift. Big question what's involved. The pump alone is $420 and labor is $570. They were trying to push recall but their saying additive in fuel causing problem. Large number 2003 Cavalier are having problem. I'm going call G.M. raise little heck see what happens.

    fuel pumps

i've seen these these pumps go in many cars, not just the chevy's,one of the
"helpfull" hints the g.m. techs came up with was never run the tank on empty
especialy in hot weather, the fuel has a tendency to boil and cavitate the pump, since the pump relies on fuel to keep it cool, that accounts for premature pump failure!
now i can't say if this is true, however i know changing the pump is a pain
last time i did it i used a hoist & a g.m. fuel line tool kit!

The reason that it is so expensive is (1) it is a cartridge that contains the fuel pump, the fuel level sender, the pickup and sock and the tank outlet and (2) it is so expensive because the can...

Go to EGAY and search for "fuel pump" and cavalier. You will find a bunch of offerings...some are GM part numbers, some are AC brand (which are exactly the same as the GM since AC makes both) and some will probably be off brands like Carter, Airtex, etc.

You should be able to pick up an AC cartridge for about $200. Installation is pretty simple IF the gas tank is near empty and you are not smoking.

    Fuel Pump

I called G.M. found out 80% of 2003 chevy cavaliers have this problem. Told me take both to dealer and they will pay for them. You would think they would have recall. Bottom line nothing made last. I have owned cavaliers since 93 and we would run them in ground , never had problems. I bought both 2003 same time and had double the problems. The gauge cluster change twice and steering pumps. Many small problems.
