Walmart's got a leadded item on the shelves, not recalled

Walmart has been very good about removing leadded toys from the shelves and posting the recall papers in customer services and in the toy dept... but I just got 2 boxes of christmas lights ( wal mart brand ) and on the back of the box, it says "touching this product exposes you to lead, wash hands after handeling" now, I know enough to wash my hands after touching them, and after I put them up, I did but, what about the kids that help hang lights w/ there parents? there not going to... the thing that gets me is, I see no need for lead to be on a wire jacket

I figure a bit of lead in your system toughens you up...................For when the "Big One" drops.

Just pick up almost any auto product that goes to the Left Coast and you will see that little speech the tree huggers require; "this product contains a substance that is known to cause (fill in you favorite deadly disease) in California".

I bought some speaker wire from Best Buy and it contained some deadly chemical that's waiting to kill me - (hmmm - maybe that's why I've had to visit an endocrinologist and a gastroenterologist(proctologist) in the past couple of weeks and have had two ultrasounds in that same period )

The state of california knows this to be bad ........ ,.what ever happened to the nationally accredited places doing research on this ,now the state of california is a chemical exspert,I do not recall a election for this person, soo whos the exspert employed by the state of cali to determin this danger that is only known to this state,.maybe its just dangerous to people from the state of california
I knew the politicians in cali knew it all ,I had no idea they were chemical exsperts tooo ,....W O W.

On the same note !! Have you guys started seeing the new "universal directions"....... There pictures ,instead of words , kinda like a childs book with only pictures exsplaining what to do...........
I will have to say ,its better than the encyclopedia of multiple languages that normally comes in the box out here........

CA seems to be the only one that requires that statement (so far) - but about 20 miles from me is the State of Vermont. They are starting to do things like that - that ONLY affect Vermonters .

I just bought some new computer parts - the case has a manual in 8 languages, the CPU, 15 different languages and the chipset, 8. All of the English versions have been translated directly from the language of the manufacturing country - Thailand, China, Taiwan Chinese, Japan and German - and with the exception of the motherboard, might as well have not been translated as the instructions are almost useless. With those lousy manuals, a good set of "universal" pictures would have been welcome

yes I realise that in the automotive feild, we deal with lead a lot. I can understand having lead in paint, it's cheaper even tho it should not be used in childrens toys, which is why there are so many recalls.. But I see no purpose for lead in christmas light wire, it's plastic coated.. we bought other christmas lights from walmart that don't have that warning..

Westleys Tire Bleach is warned that it can effect your nervouse system by the state of california.. I use it anyway.. and if used in an unventilated area, it can make you feel akward, I had my face start to go numb once cleaning tires...

I would imagine you would have to do a very thorough analysis of the lights to find at most a trace amount of lead..... Now if you were to handle those lights 18 hours a day every day for the next 10 years it could indeed cause problems....... Everything comes with warnings. The do-gooders want us to be afraid of everything and rely on their knowledge to determine our actions.

Remember when football for kids was determined to be too dangerous and all the rage was to play soccer???? A few years later it was determined that constantly bouncing a soccer ball off your head was causing damage.

Before that, eating an egg was going to cause huge gains in bad cholesterol numbers and you would die of a stroke within days. Then it was determined that eggs are ok after all.

If we were all to avoid all the things that cause illness or injury, we'd all be living in a nice little bubble. No thanks.

As for the Christmas tree lights, take them back to the store, do away with that fire hazard of a Christmas tree, and spend the season remembering the real reason for Christmas!!!!!!!

Oh, that's right... Some are offended by the word Christmas, so no to be totally correct we can only refer to the upcoming season as "the holidays".

I liked life a lot better when the government and all it's agencies LEFT US THE HELL ALONE!!!!!!

There is probably lead in the soldered connections.

This is a case of the media making everyone paranoid. I am 59, and have used leaded paints for 43 years, and other than my hair turning gray, and putting on a few more pounds the last 20 years, I seem to be healthy.

Obviously, children like to put everything in their mouth, which I have resisted doing with the paints. Before everyone gets there panties in a bunch, your body is about 90% water. Did you know water is toxic, and will kill you if you drink too much?

Relax, and don't believe everything you see being "spun" on the news. Keeping the public constantly upset over every possible issue is good for their bottom line. I miss the '60s, when news bulletins did not start with "This is really going to upset you." They just gave us the facts, and did not tell us how to feel about things...

....and we did not hear about those Hollywood "tards", and sports "buffoons", either! You only read those stories in the National Enquirer.

Oh yeah, that was way back in the days when life was based on common sense, and not relying on some alleged "expert" to tell us what is good and bad, safe or unsafe!!!! Seems to go along with personal responsibility, another thing that seems to be out of fashion.....

I hung the lights on the front of the house, havn't gotten the tree yet, we always get it 2 weeks b4 Christmas so it's not a dried out fire hazzard by new years.

on the news the other day, Lowes had put " Faimily Trees " in the headding of the fake trees section of there flyer, people were so offended of this, they called it a misprint and re printed the flyer with the correct headding... makes you wonder, people cannot make up there mind.. they say there offended, then they complain about the change, when it does change..

    still laughing, thanks.

how many people are sucking on a Marlboro while bitching about the lead

lead on lights is ridiculous, and i quit smoking about 2 years ago. but if smokes were only as bad as lead i'd buy a pack right now
