Has Denny been around today? Just reread his last post from our discussion last night;

I, for one, hope not. I look at this forum nearly every day. I enjoy it because, for the most part, there is very little B.S. I look forward to everyone's advice, and Tech, Denny and many others are outstanding contributors. So maybe we should let sleeping dogs lie and let things settle a little bit. Everyone has the right to be an a$$hole sometimes. Sometimes we all abuse the privilege. (that remark is NOT directed at any one person, but rather all of us):HMMM:
Ouch. I don't think you're to blame Dave, I don't think anyone was to 'blame'.....just two people getting on each others nerves a bit.....it happens in the best of families unfortunately.
I too come on here nearly every day, and I've learnt a lot from both Richard and Denny, I enjoy their posts, and would be sorry to see either of them leave.
Let's hope they can bury the hatchet. (And not in each other's heads!)
Amen to that, Johnboy. Denny has helped me several times when I've run up against a problem with my FE (390).
Hmmmmm. I thought I would send Denny a PM and ask if he is ok, and it looks like he has pulled his PM box from his profile. I know he had one because he and I have PM'd each other before, and just a couple of days ago I asked him for a torque spec and he replied back.

I just tried to reply to the answer he gave me on the torque spec, and here is what I got:
DennyW has chosen not to receive private messages or may not be allowed to receive private messages. Therefore you may not send your message to him/her.
Maybe he needed a little r & r, and decided to step back for a while. At least I hope that is the only reason he has disappeared into the ether. His experience and knowledge would be a terrible thing to lose.:CRY:
well i hope that you did not do it ? i hope denny comes back?? i like talking to him , he did give many his time .so maybe he needs some time off .i can see at times somethings need to be said . or some times walk a way .if he walk away i for one hope he will find has way back for the many on here looking for help
Denny is a very smart guy---BUT---He's also a very touchy guy. He seems to get his nose out of joint pretty friggin easily. He has taken his marbles and went home a few other times before this.
I think you have to have a degree of skin thickness to post on these forums, because lots of other people are going to have opinions that are 180 out of phase of your own. There have been times when someone said something that got under my skin a little too, so I understand how Denny might just need to take a deep breath and maybe take some time away.
I think Denny is not only a very smart, experienced car guy, but is also a sensitive person, and takes things to heart. While I have come to respect him and like him as a person, I think some of what Brian says is true. His feelings just seem to get hurt sometimes. I hope he gets through this one and decides to come back.

It is very hard to get someones intentions across in writing! Facial expressions and tone of voice cannot be written:) A few months back Brian mistook something I replyied to about taking a shifter out of a car and using it in a rod. I said I wouldnt do that again because I was 'all grown up' now. The truth being the last time I went under a car in a yard I met MR Woodchuck up close and personal and just about chit myself:eek: :eek: :eek: While sometimes I like to get under peoples skin I dont intend to hurt them-I think alot of guys are like that!
well i think any one that has posted as much as denny and other would have a heart? to take the time to help someone out? or to care to post any thing? or just sit back and say tough for you i just do not give a dam ?not to help some out with a problem? there could be heath issue or money issue or both that keep some one from working on there dream car or truck ? so helping someone could be the next best thing for them? i try not to blast any one but it can happen
On a couple of boards I am on this would have been locked. I just put some people on my ignore list and that works for me.The cam wear ,and lifter wear has been going on since I built my first eng in 1955. I have never lost a lifter or cam lobe ,with over 500 engs built. This will continue long after I am gone.

i have big blocks that run up to 8000 rpms they say together just fine the sbc engine just do not eat cams like a big block chevy will. i have seen them built by some of the best engine builders and had some for me wipe out to that is why i use roller cams in all my builds. the 454 where wiping stock cams out when new this with added spring lbs make the cams go alot faster i build big blocks and is common .as far as how many builds i have done i never counted **)
you do the head count with receipts. I didn't realize the bbc had the problem. This is not new but different, the sbc has helped itself with lifters with a tiny orffice in the face, for better oiling. As you well know the lifters only get splash oiling, thats why its so important to preoil. I guess my engs have so much clearance that the lobes get plenty of oil. If a new eng turns over for more than 5 secs there is a problem. that is the way i look at it
Ther's been alot of people who have helped me out since I joined, but Denny has helped me more than most. He's a sensitive guy and has feelings just like you and I, and he sure knows what he's talking about. Take a look at his threads, over 10,000 and most are for helping people. I hope he hasn't left us because I for one will miss him

Erick, I have never built a blown, or nitrious eng. i have built many street engs, and stand behind what i say. Just because you don't know some one that has dosen't make it not so. end of discusion for me.
Okay, you three, did any of you read the title to this thread. I am not trying to put any of you down, But for crying out loud take your argument about who knows the most about cams or motors to the appropriate thread. :rolleyes:
yes i did ..did you read my first post on this form :D did it get off path yes but ? denny may or may not come back i think this has been posted .what started the deal with denny was crane or comp cam form .i would be the first to be happy to see him come back .but that would be up to him . i did not start any thing about building 500 engines with no failures if he did thats great .:3dSMILE:Quote:

As for building 500 engines with 0 failures. That's a lot of builds. Maybe if they're just plan old rebuilds and stock engines..... but just the law of averages on getting a defective part from a supplier makes that even seem.....well, a long, long string of good luck!!!! If it's performance engines, I would say anyone with that kind of skill must be making mega bucks in one of the pro engine shops... I've been hot rodding for 40 years, doubt I've built 1/10 that many engines, let alone that many with no failures. Heck, had one come unglued on the dyno first pass last year.... Heck, I doubt if any of the reman engine shops have that kind of record... But hey, it's your story, tell it any way you want. This is a public forum so I would say that if your engine building skills and luck are that good, you should get hold of Bill and put an ad on here promoting your perfect record!!!

Because everyone that builds race engines has a customer that always thinks 8,200 rpm's is good then 8,800 rpm's is better.
This really reminds me a lot of the old gasser 196/Scooter and his 12,500 rpm sbc.
This reminds me also of dad's buddies that are now in the 60 age group telling stories to some of the young guys that come in the shop after hours and talk about all the hp they had back in 1965 and I have to take them over to the flow bench and explain to them there is no way that they had a 700 hp 327.
A stock double hump head just won't flow enough air to support this.
I am not the only one who broke out the "old can" of BS spray.
After all it is your story and some young kids may or may not believe it.

never said my sbc would go that high. i said they can. i shift at 7-7500 didnt know how 7 became 12,5 :LOL:

HOO BOY! I go out of the country for a couple of weeks (without internet access) and come back to find a big manure slinging contest going on between two of the guys whose postings I enjoy most!
Personally, I'm almost always ticked off at somebody about something, so I can understand differences of opinion. Also, I do a very lousy job of keeping my cool. I then say or write stuff that I immediately regret, and I don't always have an "edit button" to save my sorry tail. Am I that much different different from anybody else?
I don't want either of these guys to bail. They both have so very much to offer that it would be a kick in the shorts to CHR to lose either (much less both) of them.
A major appeal of CHR is that people here are civilized, and we all know that most other forums ain't.
So, this, too, shall pass.
