no its a cutlass s that i put the w30 hood and 4-4-2 grilles in. i think it looks better that way.
That is the main road into the subdivision, everything was back to normal 'bout 2 days after that exept it was like a slalom having to dodge all the trash on the side of the road. I felt sorry for this guy though, he has a 1st gen mustang in the garage alsoQuote:

is there a difference between the cutlass and the 442, I always thought it was a cutlass with 442 option

if i had a mersedes and a royles sitting in that much water i would be flippin out the mustang too id let the navigator float away and collect the ins. check:D
the cutlass s is the base trim and options they build the rally 350's and the 4-4-2's out of them the cutlass supreme is the one with all the creature comforts not so much about power. correct me if i'm wrong lt1s10
i worked on them 35 yrs. ago and mostly auto. trans. so i didnt get into the fenders and doors much but im sure somebody will set me stright. i always thought the rug. cutlass was dif than the 442. the 442 always looked bigger to me. there was the reg. cutlass, plane jane 6 cylender, then the cutlass serprime, loaded with everything, with a 350 motor and then the 442. it was loaded up with power everything, 442 stood for 400 motor, 4 barrel carb and duel exhaust. they were nice, and fast out of the showroom . the one i had was the cutlass with the 350 motor, that had the w30 or 31 package on it. it had air induction hoses coming from under the bumper to the carb., a little cam ,4 barrel carb., dule exhaust, posi-trac dif, 4 speed trans, bench seat, no carpet, small hubcaps, before i carried mine home from the shop i put carpet and a new set of wheels on it. i think it sold for 9000Quote:

yeah thank's alot i was getting tired oh it
I agree, sorry for crapping up the thread for my own personal propaganda :)
Welll, I was informed it was a 4V carb, a 4 speed manual trans, and dual exhaust. Power plants could have gone bigger than 400, or been a worked over 350..... I'm not sure though.Quote:

Enough said.
In the first year, 1964 they all had 4 speeds. I believe they were also 330 cu in. I'm not sure if the Automatics came in 1965 or 66. I don't think the Turbo 400 came until '66.Quote:

There were not very many made in 1964.

Oldsmobile added to the confusion by publishing different definitions... But I think these are the "accepted" meanings of the 4-4-2 name plate.
Definition of 4-4-2 from the Oldsmobile Factory Literature:
1964 (Original meaning)
4: Four Barrel Carburetion
4: Four On the Floor
2: Dual Exhausts
1965 (First year of automatic transmission option on 442)
4: 400 Cubic Inch Displacement
4: Four Barrel Carburetion
2: Dual Exhausts
1985 to 1987 (Last of RWD 442s)
4: Four speed automatic
4: Four barrel carburetor
2: Dual exhaust
1990 and 1991 (FWD 442)
4: Four cylinders
4: Four valves
2: Two camshafts

thanks tech, looks like dan j did his home work. you are right ,orginaly it was like you said, and i was at the olds dealer 1969-1972 and thats how i made my living, if it hadnt been for people braking those 400 in the 442s i would have went hungry and thats what olds told me it stood for, after 1972 i dont know but im not going to look it up because i belive dan j did.:DQuote:
