1971 Camaro RS

I got the dry wall in the bath room up, taped, mudded and sanded. Now I have to put the laminate flooring down, then put the trim on the wall. I was hoping I'd get out of driving truck tomorrow but so far I still have to.

I did get some late night/early morning work in though. I picked up an emblem I found on my searches for the grill. I decided to mount the emblem flush. Once that was done I decided I would repaint the faces of the grill halves just because. Now I need to polish the inner grill surround.

I had Camaro parts stacked on top of my laminate flooring in the garage. So in order to get to the flooring, I decided to put the parts on the car. I got the floor pans and carpet vacuumed and then set the carpet back in. Next I put the tan front seats in. Cool, now I can get to the flooring. :LOL: I did get some done on Ivvy's room in between sanding mud. Hopefully I can get those house projects done so I can get back to real work. Haha

I still don't think you're old enough to own that old Camaro, you really need to bring it up here to me and trade for my Impala!!!

It would have to have some wide meats in the rear and a 671 setting on top of a BBC to even make me think about it. :LOL:

It's been hard to make progress on the old girl lately. I'm on my 2nd week of 12's, the washer and drier crapped out, and it's been raining every other day. I decided to start a diet. Since I'm at work and they make me take 30 minute breaks, I work on camaro parts on my lunch break. It sure makes a fat kid hungry but I am making some progress at least. :LOL: I've wire wheeled a lot of bolts and primered and painted them, as well as my new battery tray. I have some pieces left for the front end yet to do.

I finally got the carpet and front seats put back in. Now I am working on completing the interior color change. My sail panels were all but gone. I found some in a car in a junk yard but the ends needed some repair. I repaired them, prepped them and sprayed them with interior paint/dye. My rear panels needed some work so I'm repairing them too. These 4 panels are bringing $350-$600 for nice used oem pieces. These are going to have to work for now. :LOL: I'm going to try and repair the door panels and use them for now too. Eventually I'll get all new interior for it. For now it'll be nicer than it was and be able to be driven for a while.

That Arizona sun roached the interior pretty bad. They has to be a line between melted and rusty somewhere in this country :LOL:

And that's what it takes to get a car done right?!?!? The house / kids / family come first, but good on ya' for trying to take care of yourself, diets are always brutal.. mine is only a mesely pound a month, it still gets hard to reach tho. :(

It's good that you can make progress of any sort some times. My sister posted of FB that it's only 90 days 'til Christmas! :eek: I'm thinking (sigh) already?!?!?:LOL:

Diets do work; but you've got to be patient and consistent.
Basically: put less in your face.
Over about a thirty month period I went from 120 kgs (265 lbs) to 80 kgs (176 lbs.)
I did it by dishing up my own meals, using a smaller plate, and not going back for seconds.
My eyes and brain told me I had a plateful and my subconscious accepted that.
And in just over two years I lost a third of my body weight.

(Sorry for the hijack! I'll butt out now...)

My wife and I have been planning on starting the kito diet but haven't yet. I'm sure if I cut out all sugar and a lot of carbs it would help me out. I have been trying to stay away from fast food too.

Back to the black pita.... :LOL: This morning I went to the local pick n pull before work to get some injector connectors. I have a f body harness from a LS1 and I'm going to put it on my 5.3. The only thing really different are the injector connectors. So I'm at the pick and pull and decide I should just get another intake. Mine had one of the prongs to retain the map sensor broken off. This particular part is glued/bonded on the intake. Then I decided, hey, I might as well grab the fuel rails, and the injectors, with the map sensor too. I get to the counter to pay and the old man says put that in the corner and come back tomorrow. What you have will add up to be $200-$300 and tomorrow we're having a sale. What ever you can put in a wheel barrow for $100. I couldn't believe it. Their site says a complete intake is only $42. He told me that only includes the intake. The rails are $28ea, injectors $10ea, throttle body $40, map sensor $10, intake $42, and then there is a core on the intake. I told him there shouldn't be a core on a plastic intake. :LOL: That pretty much ticked me off.

I appreciate him trying to save me money for sure. I guess it's the whole shock of thinking you'll be getting something for one price and find out it triples when you go to pay for it. I don't know if I'll go back or not. I went out and cut some connectors off another truck because the ones I had from earlier are hooked on the intake that is now setting in the corner. Now I have to decide if I really need/want that stuff. Having spare injectors may be ok since they are pricey. I see how these places make their money now. :LOL:

I pondered over it last night and decided I would go back and I'd make the most of it. If I would have had more time I would have gotten an engine. Due to having to work 12s, that isn't an option.

I did, however, get a good amount. I got 3 truck intakes. 2 complete with throttle bodies, all have the fuel rails, injectors, map sensors, and regulators. I got a set of coils, valve covers, rocker arms with stands, push rods, just to have. Then I got some sun visors and a couple trim pieces for my 95 F350. I got a tilt column, dash bezels, heat/ac control, some harness connectors, window switches and lock switches for my Dad's 91 F350. Last I got some heavy duty floor mats, a tail light for the excursion, and a push bar just because. :LOL: I'd say I got my hundo's worth since they wanted $250 for that intake yesterday.

That's a pretty good haul for $100.

A bigger wheel barrow would have been nice! I did see a 4cyl with trans in a wheel barrow outside waiting to get loaded in a pick up. I may have to find out when the next sale is. It might be worth going down and plucking a complete engine out. (You just have to have the time for that) :LOL:

They did have some rules. You had to bring everything in the wheel barrow through their lobby doors. Which are probably 5' wide. I did see some guys have 2 half ton rear axles, a radiator support, and a pile of small stuff out of 05 up F150s.

considering they probably bought the parts at scrap prices and what you can put in a wheel barrel won't out weigh what they paid for it. I know where I work they give about $35. for an engine and $25 for trans.

I was offered $500 for my P60 van with running 427 and Allison automatic. No way. I gave it to my brother in law for what I consider its scrap value - $1500.

I just wanted it off the lawn.

In typical fashion, I haven't gotten much done to the Camaro. I have been working a lot of OT, plus the rain finally let up and I'm back to hauling grain and fixing equipment.

I finally almost have the flooring done in the bathroom project. Our washer and dryer also puked 2 weeks ago so I had to deal with that. They have all kinds of rules when you buy new ones and have them delivered. I wouldn't know. These were the first ones we've gotten new. They required a perfectly flat, solid, and level place for them to set. You had to have a gas shut off valve within 4' of the dryer. (There was no shut off valve before) The place where ours were slopes back and there were some dents from the feet of the previous machines. I built a new sub floor and now it is nice and level. I got a gas shut off valve and put it on like they wanted. I even put another knob on one of the water shut off valves, and secured them to the wall since they weren't before. I'm glad it's all done and we can wash and dry clothes at home again!

No real big progress on the car yet. But I did gain on the parts side of it a little. I was searching for parts one night on break at work 2 weeks ago, and found a guy in southern Iowa parting out a 70-73 camaro. I only wanted the stainless drip rails, and the rear seat panels but I asked about everything that was left and it was too cheap to pass up. It turns out to be a 71 RS 350 car. The guy didn't quite know what he had. It was a split bumper car and he said it was a Z/28. He sold the engine, trans, and front clip from it before we made the deal. He claimed it was an original 4 speed car. I got down there on a Sunday evening to find he also sold the rear end out of it, steering wheel, and RS turn lamps that were laying in it. I was not happy at all. He kept saying it said in the ad no rear end, steering wheel, etc. No, it didn't.... I had to keep my cool because we were in bfe and he didn't own the property where the car was. His friend did. And his friend looked like he had hidden some bodies before so I figured since I was getting it cheap enough I'd just figure out how to get it on the trailer and get the heck out of there. :LOL: It'll make a good project with the kids later on. The shell is really solid so I can't complain too much.

It has 73 up rear seat panels I'm going to put in my car. I'm taking the stainless drip rails for my car too. It has the 4 speed pedals, the shift on the floor column with key, console mounting bracket, gauge cluster with 7k tach and 150mph speedo, 2 sets of tail lights, 2 lower dashes, 2 rear windows, a rear bumper, a decent black back seat, but not much else. Haha

Then last weekend my brother swung by Cedar Rapids and got me a RH fender, an extra deck lid, and a 73-81 console. I'll use the console in my car for now. I think it is an auto one, but I can make it work.

Thanks and I did. I was surprised how solid it was. The guy claimed it had been in a barn for 30 years. I didn't believe it until I saw it. That's when I knew it was more then a parts car. These are getting really hard to find. I have it wrapped in a tarp for now and I'm going to get it inside before it gets too cold with any luck. I'm thinking this will be the first father kid project.

No, that isn't happening. :LOL: This one is just getting shelved for a while. I can't say I won't buy a cheap part for it when I come across it but I'm going to try to not do that too. The 40 is supposed to be used for 2 weddings in 2019 so I have to get on it and finish it.

I don't see it as spending it "on" the kid but "with" a kid or more even!

What's the old saying? Something about slowly but surely? :LOL: It isn't done but progress is being made. I finally got a couple of a holes to pay their bills so I could buy more Camaro parts.

I tried to put the window moldings on myself but only was able to get one side of the windshield trim on. Before I cracked the glass or bent the trim, I scheduled a time for my friend to come put it on. I didn't feel too bad when it took him a hour and a half to get them installed. The back one took both of us to do. The top piece has some bends in it from someone man handling it removing it. Both the top trim pieces were bent bad when I got this car so I sourced these else where. I didn't realize these were gold plated but found out they are. So I'll keep my eye open for better ones and these will work for now.

I also got the front sheet metal back on and put the trim pieces back on. I have the inner fenders repaired and painted too. I couldn't stand the gap in between the front tire and the fender so I am addressing that now. I finally got the drive shaft installed, and put the trans shifter in. The carpet frayed after I cut the hole opening so I need to find a way to clean that up and make it look a little nicer. I got a new console compartment, lid, latch, and spring. I also ordered new weather stripping, upper and lower door panels, arm rests, package tray, window guides/bumpers, front license plate bracket, a rubber bumper kit, and some other hardware.

I did get the rear interior panels cleaned and re-dyed. Too bad they have to come back out to install the rear package tray. :LOL:

Hey, any progress is good progress! And working 2 (or more) jobs like you do, and a family too... I'd say you're doing fine.

I took the coupe for a quick ride last sunday. I was going to use it to visit my friend that's doing the factory five 33 hot rod, but as I was backing out my Dad showed up so I asked him if he wanted to go for a ride. He said sure so we just cruised around some of the back roads.
