The forecourt attendant took one look at this unsmiling long-haired leather-clad hot-rodder, clapped her hand over her mouth, and headed for the back of the shop with her shoulders shaking.

jb, your story took me back to 2014 when Susan & I visited NZ, and you'd registered us for your NZ NSRA annual gathering. Lots of good cars, even more great people, and a different approach to NSRA than we have! But the thing that your story brought back was the last day, when we awoke to a steady, heavy rain, and folks were packing up after breakfast to head home. One was this Cobra, sans top! Now in this picture the owner is bundled up for the brisk temperatures, but that morning he and his wife had matching insulated rain suits, complete with tight hoods, goggles and built in communications! I wish I'd gotten a picture of them as they headed out!

That's 'RJ' Frampton. He's still got that car, but he's traded his missus in for a newer model.
He's one of the funniest (as in humour,) guys I know. He'll pass some innocuous comment completely deadpan, it takes a second or two for it to sink in; and you whistle around and say "What did you just say?" when you realise that it's the most outrageous thing you've ever heard.
What we Kiwis call a real hard-case bastard.
I've known the man thirty years; and still don't know what the 'RJ' means or stands for.

I just rolled over 10,000 miles on my T-Bucket. I’ve been having a blast with this thing. Next month I’m going to drive it up for the last two days of the Hot Rod Power Tour. Starting from my house in Florida, up to Montgomery, Alabama, then to Pensacola, then to Atlanta, then back home. Is anyone else going on the Power Tour?

Glad to hear you driving the crap out of it. You put 10k on in a hurry! Right now I'm pretty close to you with Rita but still about 5 hours away in Panama City. Ours reads a bit over 17k on the way down here and will add about 1400 or or so by the time we get back. I would love to hit the power tour for a stretch but a little closer to Iowa. Your pretty lucky to have it stop in your home town

Sounds like you built a good one. Nice accomplishment! Not very many hot rods, IMO, pro or home built are as usable.

I love to see a great paint job, killer engine or interior just as much as everyone else, but the rods that get actually driven are much cooler!

Congrats! Have fun on the Power Tour! Just make sure you don't have an overheating problem. Traffic on the PT can be brutal.

looks like the power tour will be in my neck of the woods again .. i`m just 5 miles from 231/431 .. its` been a while since they hit north bama .. i was in the tour in 2005 and watched 2006 roll by .. i will be watching from nearby ..got about 300 thousand miles on my 05 sticker .
