Very nice work, but how will it be taken off when you need to? It will be heavy and you can always use it now as a buck and make an all fiberglass part.

Thanks! The plan is to hinge it at the rear and use hatchback style lift cylinders. It really isn't all that heavy, but I like the fiberglass idea!

Very nice metal work!
Thanks
The hood is mostly done. I need to find an english wheel that is bigger than mine to crown the metal.

I picked up a slick set of bmw hood hinges from the self serve salvage yard that I think will work. $4.99!

I was goons post some fool comment about dolly-ing it out, but misunderstood what you were saying.
Started setting up the bmw hinges. I should be able to hinge the hood at the front.

just my .02 again.....but that hood would be cool with louvers to help get heat out
Started priming the framework and underside of the hood. While that was drying, I began installing the lift struts on the hinges when I noticed coolant leaking out from between the intake manifold and the head on my crate motor. Of the two intake manifold bolts on the right rear of the motor, the far rear one was not even finger tight. The other was not much tighter. I torqued all of them. The ones on the front of the motor were fine, but one on the left rear was also under torqued. The leak stopped, so I went ahead and changed the oil as a precaution. Not happy. It is still in warranty, so we will see.

I got the last two throttle balls from the local parts store to use as lower strut mounts. Turns out one of them was left hand threaded, so waiting for another to come in on Monday

Nice work! That stinks about the mounts. Hopefully that wrap will eliminate the melting for you. The fenders look great!
I don't think I've seen a mount do that before. Perhaps when you do replace them, you might add in a simple metal heat deflector, to shield the mount.
It could mount under the same fasteners as the mount??
Took the Single Cab to a small local car show today.

Very cool. I bet it generated a ton of interest!
I am making a big push to get this truck finished up. I have it up on the lift to cross things off a long list of minor items. I am also going to pull the cab off to finish up some welding on the underside.

First on the list is sectioning out a 4" section of the under seat A/C compartment. It is deeper than I need and cuts into my ground clearance.

Also, finally getting around to finishing the bottom of the doors and moving the lower hinge up a few inches. Can't wait to trim off all that extra metal.

Very nice work. It will look sweet with that lower bit cut off and the hinge moved up for sure!
awesome build keep the photos coming
Thanks!
Todays progress. I was able to finish sectioning the A/C Compartment. The front and back are welded in. I am going to wait to get the cab off before welding the sides.

Should really give it a more streamlined look!
Spent the entire day moving the lower hinge on the passenger door, as well as capping off the lower section of the door.
First, I had to modify the mounting pad to angle the hinge

Cut a piece of 3/16" flat bar to weld to the new mount area. Tapped the holes to accept the stock screws.

Then trim up the door to accept the original hinge mount section from the further down door.

I removed the front suspension today so that I could get access to the front portions of the truck. I needed to do a lot of welding, grinding and smoothing without damaging the chrome and stainless.

While I have the brake system open, I need to remove the factory drum brake residual valves from the Wilwood brake master cylinder. I had already installed 2 lb disc brake residual valves in line for the four wheel disc brakes. Also did a lot of misc welding, fitting and grinding

Repacked the wheel bearing grease up front
Repaired a few pin holes in the sheet metal under the windshields
Added a scoop on the underside to direct additional air to the engine
Installed several rubber coated clamps on the brake lines and shifter cable

Quick update. The truck made the 1100 mile round trip to Cruisin the Coast with no major issues. I shot some video at the show but had to cut it short to go home and prep for the hurricane. I will post video in a few weeks.
