I've see a number of people painting hot rod body parts one at a time and I wonder if there is any worry of the metallic not matching. I always tried to paint a car all at once for the fear of that happening. These old cars with so many body panels, it would certainly be easier to paint each piece over a period of time. I know that I have not had luck when I have had to go back and spot repair a panel, it never matches. I've been spinning my brain around wondering how to paint my many Stude body parts when the time come. Of course the old cars are different than the new bodies, a lot the parts jut out a different angles and don't all lie flat next to each other like the newer cars.

I have been told as long as its out of the same can you should be ok. Rita's parts got painted at different times and it matched perfectly but it was not a metallic either. I had a fender repair on my silver T/A and even though it was blended, it does not match that well, although there is a 25 year difference in the paint.

So paint the parts as you go, then a final light coat after assembly?

That "...final light coat after assembly" sounds like a recipe for disaster to me!

Well I have though about the trouble of painting at different times but my painter (40 years of painting ) says no worries, we'll see. there are no other coats . So far they all look good. Got rear fenders back today , bed and tailgate left then assembly.

I was worried when my body shop guy told me that too, but he was right, everything matched perfect. Your fenders look beautiful !

I haven't been keeping up with my post on my truck but it's getting closer every month. Down to final assembly .

Lookin' very, very nice! You're doing a fantastic job pulling it together, and you've jumped some hoops to get there, too!

That paint looks so deep you could almost swim in it.
It would really pop out in the sunshine.

Working on the bed wood, using Dark Walnut and spraying it with clear. The "1940" and "Ford" will cover the openings at each side board.

Also been working on the inside panels getting ready for the upholstery.

1st real test drive is getting close !

Nice job on the bed wood! The walnut is going to look great against your color! Very nice!
