As usual my plans have changed. Now I'm not driving to KC for the start of the power tour. I'm going to take the 72 and drive south on Sunday morning and try to drop in behind the pack as they come through and go to Newton and enjoy 1 day of it. Maybe another year I can do the entire thing.

This weekend had a little bit of everything in it. Saturday I took the boys to their T ball game. It was super windy and they had a hard time keeping the sand out of their eyes. We went home and I found the best baby sitting device for them. Let them play in a 72 Chevy that has no battery or engine. They love it. Great. I started working on my 72. I finally cleaned the bed out and pressure washed the whole truck. Then I had to prep the smoker because we were having friends over that night. We smoked pork belly and baby back ribs. Once that was cooking and going I dug out the stuff to add air bag reservoirs to the truck. I got them done around 7pm and was starting to round up supplies to put on my air horn. That was the time my wife got the call that her sister's house was on fire. They lost 1 dog, but no one was in the house or injured. My wife went over there to be with her. That was the end of truck progress, it was on to kid watching duties. Sadly they lost pretty much everything.

Sunday I woke up earlier than I wanted to and finished the truck enough to drive it. My cousins met at my house and we drove to Knoxville. There we sat and waited for participants of hot rod power tour to go by. I took my 6 year old little girl with me. She liked watching the cool cars and trucks go by, but it was starting to get warm. We were setting in front of the Knoxville raceway museum. She wanted to go in there so we did. We looked around for a few minutes and she wanted a toy sprint car. I got her that and a checkered flag. Then it was time to leave to go to Newton for the Power Tour day event.

I was surprised at how many cars and trucks were there. They came in all day. I heard them say they had around 8500 cars and trucks. They were spread out between 3 different parking lots. I met Pat, Falconvan, there. It was great to meet you Pat! We left Newton at 3:30 because Izzy had had enough of the heat and being bored. Maybe another year I can take the kids on the tour and have cool air in the vehicle for them. :LOL It wasn't a total loss. We saw many cool rides, and Izzy told momma that she had an awesome time. So that is all that matters I guess. Plus the air bag reservoirs worked and the truck rides even better now.

Sorry for your folk's house. I lost an awesome dog when mine burned. I don't care a flip for the lost stuff. Material items are replaceable.

Great day you spent with the daughter. I have maybe four memories of my Dad taking time out for me. I'm betting she'll have three or four a month.

Sorry to hear about the dog and house too. That just plain sucks!

But great to read you had some time with your daughter and looking at hot rods. And being the over-achiever that you are - you got parts installed as well...

Over achiever, I don't know bout that. I forgot to add, that since the boys didn't get to go to the show with us, my wife met us when we left the show so the boys could ride back with me. That took some of their anxiety away about not getting to go to the show.......

Crikey mate but that's bad news about the in-laws house burning down.
Especially about losing their pet. We've had many dogs over the years, primarily for work; and you do get very attached to them.

On a brighter note it was good that you got to meet Pat. (Falconvan.)
And you got work done on the truck. A wise man once told me that there are no big jobs in life; just lots of individual little ones. It's only when you finish and look back that it becomes a big job.

I forgot this little tid bit earlier. But the reason no one was home at my wife's sister's house the night it caught fire was because Dan, my wife's sister's husband, is in the hospital with kidney failure caused by an intestinal infection they say. They sure have had a real bad run of bad luck lately. He's been going to the VA and had one heck of a long battle with them over the last few years trying to get his health issues fixed.

Wow they really have had a bad time. I'm sorry for your family's hardships and the loss of a dog(that would do me in). Glad you spent some quality time though

Sorry to read about all of the problems of your in-laws, too. It would have been good to see you in KC, but another time will come. I didn't even go over to Arrowhead Stadium where Power Tour started.

Roger, I don't blame you for not running up there. I think they said it was 98* there and I'm sure it was a mess with the amount of traffic in and out of there. I'm going to try to go to the All Truck Nats in KC in September again. But that is on hold sort of because Allyson is due around that same time. So there is a good chance I'll miss the show.

Sorry to hear about all the family problems….and hopes for a swift recovery for your brother in law.

“…….We went home and I found the best baby sitting device for them. Let them play in a 72 Chevy that has no battery or engine. They love it……”

My Grandkids have logged a lot of time in the projects built. They get a bit disappointed when I progress to the point in the build where I stop letting them pretend they are driving it.

Thanks guys. I guess what ever he has is highly contagious so they moved him out of the shared room into a bigger room that has a couch. Now Tammy, his wife, can sleep on the couch instead of the hospital floor. We've been getting them clothes and everyday hygiene supplies. She met an adjuster out at the house yesterday and he told her she wasn't going to be able to save anything from the house. He said even though the items in the garage weren't burnt, he said they are affected by the heat and smoke and he said it is deemed a total loss. Now I believe they are waiting for inspections from the local fire department, then the state inspector, before an actual claim can be filed. I'm not certain on that though.

I know what you mean. I quit letting my kids play in my 72 because I didn't want any mishaps. I told my wife that I should forget building them a play ground. I'll just get an old truck cab and set it on the ground and they'll be good to go. She didn't find it funny at all. Haha

A little late in the conversation, but I'm sad reading about all your family things going on. It seems like it's never just one thing, it always has to happen in 3's. Is Allyson your Mrs?

Insurance writes off everything as a loss on smoke damage. There are some geally great cleansers available. For ceramics and such, I used diluted non acidic coil cleaner. I absolutely was able to save at least half of out smoke damaged goods after our fire. It just depends if the effort is worth it.
