Yep, it was ugly. Definitely not one of my finer moments.

Picked up a 96 Ranger 5 speed trans last night; heading to the boneyard tomorrow for an 8.8 and a set of hanging pedals. Time to make some Mopar/Blue Oval stew.

So Falcon, will the Ranger tranny bolt up directly to the Taurus SVO, or do you have to do some adapting? Never even thought of a Taurus engine flipped around to go front to back, and what it would take to hook it up....Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

According to other projects I've seen online, it's a direct bolt up. the 3.0 Ranger engine shares the same bellhousing pattern as the 3.0 Vulcan (standard Taurus) and the 3.0 and 3.2 Taurus SHO motors. The only difference is the flywheel; 6 bolts for the standard Taurus and 8 for the SHOs. Supposedly you can use either starter. Here's a shot of one a guy is putting in a 37 Ford coupe.Last edited by falconvan; 07-26-2013 at 12:15 PM.

Of course you should, you might want to drop a Ford motor in that Chevy by the time I'm done!
Good score at the boneyard today; I got my 8.8 disc brake posi rear from a Mercury mountaineer and a pedal assembly from a Jeep Cherokee. I came home and pulled the front clip and hopefully will be able to bolt the motor and trans together next weekend for a trial fit.
The guy I got this car from, Dennis from Mentor, Ohio, did an awesome job on this car. There’s so many cool updates that I won’t have to do plus everything is super clean with all new bolts. It sure beats pulling apart a car with 50 years of rust and crud.

Ya, it was a great day to be out there. High of 75 and just a little breezy; weird weather for July in Missouri. Must be global warming

Nice score on parts! I hear you on not dealing with rust taking stuff off a 50 year old car. I was/am dealing with that on my 40. Not for long though.Ryan

Did a little teardown on the engine tonight and pulled out the front seat and carpet to get ready to trial fit the drivetrain this weekend.
Great update, Mike! I adhere to Clint Eastwood's philosophy on aging, "Don't let the old man in!" Once in he's hard to evict. Thanks for keeping us involved with your projects!
