Be ready for lots of guys asking you where you got those Steve. Most of us can't fathom that a person can actually build something like a mirror. Very cool.

Don i once made a door mirror for my old 29A coupe, one day a guy came up and asked where i got my mirror, I replied i made it, he said how, i replied that i took a hunk of aluminium and cut off all the bits that didn't look like a mirror the guy said thanks and wandered off.

Finally decided what to do with the brake backplates so i polished the outside rim and got my mate to chrome them, I will flake the centre bit, I think it will look better than a mass of chrome and give a bit of contrast.

The other night i had a few hours spare so decided to pull the Tropic Aire heater apart that i had picked up at a swap in the states. First job was to take it apart for modifying and then off for media blasting.

These things had massive fan motors in them so i chopped off the motor mount as i will be using a 6" fan/motor from a Gileera motorbike thats nice and slim and will reduce the heater thickness by half. I polished various bits and sent them to my mate for chroming.

The body after blasting was primed with 2 coats of black epoxy primer and will be painted flake later with various other small bits. tabs were made up to held the motor assembly and the long tubes on the matrix cut down to a shorter length. removing the rear section also removed the support that held the matrix tubes so 2 small tabs were made and fitted with a grommet to support the tubes and were bolted to the heater body.
Chopping the tubes down meant losing the small beaded ends which stop the hose from blowing off so as i couldn't find my small beader roller i spun up a couple of brass rings on the lathe and soldered them in place.

That heater has a nice art deco look to it. What does that motorbike have, and electric cooling fan? When you mentioned that it seemed strange as I would have thought everything on a motor bike would be gas powered.

Wow, I feel like the skill level of a kindergardener compared to this. This is outstanding work, Steve.

Lots of modern bikes are water cooled Don, most have a small electric fan.

    Steve,
You need to keep in mind, this is what Pops thinks of when you say "modern" motorcycle.........

I can see where the chap who designed the first wheel barrow got some ideas from. Heck Don don't some of these guys like pulling your leg???
I like the heater Steve and will it have demist for the windscreen as I would imagine that would be a problem in England?
I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

Not you TOO, Steve!! Actually, I think I had one like that years ago, Bob and I would go riding together. However, his was a little more streamlined than mine.

I am in awe at your CRAFTSMANSHIP it makes me consider pushing mine to the curb for the rubbish man to pick up..... Of course I won't I do the best I can with the tools and skill, little on skill, that I have. But it sure is nice to see your work. It will be a super slick rod when finished. Neat heater. I picked up an arvin for mine, wish I could afford to rechrome the front. I think I can save the chrome on frame and repaint case and louvers, which chrome is almost gone on. Maybe make it look like it wasnt redone, with the patina so it looks well worn, but not rusty and junky. Keep up the great work. Look forward to more updates and pics as they come.
