    Angry 58 ford fairlane

I have a 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 and I am trying to find out what type of engine is in the car. It has a stamping on the passenger side front of the engine which reads B9AE6075B. Can anyone help?

    If it's the stock motor, it would be a 332 V8 if it's a V8.

If it has the distributor in the front of the motor it should be a 332 and if the distributor is in the rear of the motor its a Y block and could be a 292 or a 312

The B9AE casting number was on 292 Y-blocks used in '59 and '60 cars and trucks.

The 312 engine in '59 and '60 Mercs had the same code, I believe.

The B9AE-B casting number was used on '59 332" FE blocks and on 59 & 60 352" FE Blocks

I'm betting on a 292. The distributor will tell the tale. See Jeff's post above.

Your are just a little off, it could be a 292, 332 or 352. Check out your Ford engines. the 352 came out half way through the 58 model year and most of the late FE's were the 352. The 59's used all three V8's also. Most FE's were 352 instead of 332. People figured if they were going for the bigger V8 why not go for the biggest.

My "The Complete Ford Book" so beat up I can't read the copyright date) Library of Congress Catalog Card number:78-110731 shows no 312 available in Ford cars except 56 and 57. It was available in Mercurys in 56-57-59 and 60. No 312 in Mercury's in 58, only the 383 MEL motor.

This was a Peterson Publication, for what's that's worth.

Yeap, that'd work. Hehehe. Only the one 410 offered in 58 was in an Edsel and it was based on the MEL (lincoln block) not the FE.

I looked on www.carnut.com and checked engine specs for 1958 Fords and there were 2 listings, 1 for a 6 cylender and 1 for the 332, that's probably why I'm off.
