My "The Complete Ford Book" so beat up I can't read the copyright date) Library of Congress Catalog Card number:78-110731 shows no 312 available in Ford cars except 56 and 57. It was available in Mercurys in 56-57-59 and 60.
No 312 in Mercury's in 58, only the 383 MEL motor.
