Keep the Ford.......it's really very straight forward to swap to a carb. I'm running 2- 302's myself right now that were originally fuel injected and are now carbed. Simply remove the injection manifold, and all the harnesses going to it and to the distributor. Get down to essentially a "long block" like you would buy from Auto Zone, etc.

Now you can bolt on a stock or aluminum intake and carb, and either a $ 30.00 remanufactured point-type distributor, or any 302 aftermarket electronic unit right in place.

Your 302 engine has no idea what year it is, once you get all that modern crap off of it. I am running the same setup in my 5.0 powered Jeep pickup, and in my 27 Ford roadster, for like 10 years no problems at all.

Hope this helps you keep your Ford ALL Ford. This is the way God intended it to be! Good luck, Don

P.S: The other guys are right about the fuel pump.......but just run an electric one and you won't have to sweat the timing cover routine, plus it eliminates the clearance issues. As for the trans, I run an AOD in my Jeep, and although it shifts like crap under full throttle, it is fine for normal daily driving.

I'm not sure what the other guys mean about the cam not being ok, my stock cam in the Jeep works great under all speed conditions. No bog, and it pulls hard right on up.

As for the flathead, yeah they look cool, but you may want to actually drive this car on a regular basis. I grew up on flatheads, and there was a good reason we went to Olds and Caddy's when they came out.
