fe will fit between the shock towers nicley. 460 will not with out some work. allot more parts for fe mustang in that year. you can get alot out of a fe. trade the 427 crank for a 428 crank and have a poor mans stroker. put in a 427 block for 450 cubes. lower rpm torgue of a 428 is nice. 410 I think is the same crank as 428 and they are easier to find.

you can also use a 400m with aftermarket crank for strength with 4bbl cleveland heads and snap the pinion off with slicks. done it. now run 871 on a 460 in a pinto. woohoo. love the 1 gallon per mile feeling on the street.

Ok so it's going to be a BOSS460. Yes I know. But why aim low. I had to replace the shock towers so it didnt make sense to go through all the effort and wind up with stock, so I am in the process of building tooling to replicate the original "Boss" shock towers (except mine will use the stock mustang upper control arms). With the engine installed you will not be able to see that they are not original "boss" units.

If you want a 5 or 6 speed to put behind that beast let me know, I can help you out.....Tremec dealer. Also handle Ram clutches and Quick Time bells. If it's drivetrain, we can do it.
