C8VE (1968), C9VE (1969), D0VE-A, and D0VE-C (1970) heads are all essentially the same cylinder head configuration. The D0VE-C castings are simply the most common and also the easiest to identify/remember since they are known as "dove" heads. Frankly, you could bolt a C8VE head on one cylinder bank and a D0VE-C head on the other cylinder bank and your engine won't know the difference.
There is one detail about the D0VE heads (A & C) that you need to look for: The 1970 heads were available with or without Thermactor passages,meaning that the heads may or may not be drilled for the smog pump. C8VE and C9VE heads are never drilled.
