The factory engine usually came with 4 or 6 studs standing straight up, at least on the four corners of the intake manifold. These studs facilitated quick alignment during factory production/assembly. They are in no way needed in order for you to install your intake...you may use only bolts if you wish. Factory torque spec is 25-30 foot pounds. Torque sequence may be found in the recommended repair manual...be sure to use silicone sealer around the water jackets.

Please note that torqing an aluminum intake to factory specs may get you a cracked intake
