Would you be interested in a CHR Get Together? :HMMM:
Maybe some regional gatherings?
where ?????
repeating Where?
yeah where?
i am game!
I could be interested in - especially ion a regional gathering..
Don't know where! Just curious if folks would be interested in a gathering.
A couple of us have hinted at it and are curious if it would be possible /plausible.
I guess the next step (if it is do-able and worthwhile) would be to select a location and /or an event that we'd like to see.
Mike, I'm glad you're instigating this. We've done this on a more limited basis in the past as I've talked about from time to time, but it's a good time to push it again.
Mike - why not look for a 2013 NSRA or Goodguys show somewhere mid US with easy airport connections or a good interstate. With that possibility, then all it takes is a few folks to decide to do it and then the arrangements get easier.
sure would if location was close enough
Cool! In previous conversations on this topic, it was felt that something in the middle of the country would be easier for most of this group.
But I'll admit that what trips my trigger is Bonneville. Just tossin' ideas and trying to develop the group and the plan. Hope you can make it!
I'd be in for it!!!!!
Sounds like a cool idea. We did that on DragList 7 years ago. Held it in the middle of the country and had people from as far away as both coasts, Texas to Canada show up. It worked out so well we're still doing it. Held our 7th at the World Series of Drag Racing in Cordova, IL last month.

I'd like to join in depending on timing and location. I have done something similar put together on Bass fishing forums, we had a ball.

Oh, her's a condensed version of the weekend last year 2011 @ Eddyville Raceway Park in Iowa.

Bonneville sounds neat, and I would love to do it someday, but I'm not sure that it's the right venue for this type of gathering. The salt is pretty much out in the middle of nowhere, or at least you can see nowhere from there, there are limited accommodations, and the nearest airport is a hike. Dave's idea of selecting one of the regional NSRA or Good Guys shows makes more sense - people close enough can drive in and participate, and others can fly in and be spectators. With good weather it could be a good Friday/Saturday/Sunday event seeing the cars, then hooking up for dinner somewhere in the evenings. I might be game, depending on where & when.
I like the idea of a get together, would be a fun deal.... Holding it in conjunction with a big show and shine isn't my idea of the best venue, but I guess it makes sense so that more people could justify the time and expense.... Goodguys used to at least have some Autocross competition, hopefully the still do that...
No idea, just that Hot Rods to me are all about going fast and competition!!!! I guess if we were all rich and had time to make the trip either El Mirage or Muroc would be the place. Heck, that's where it all started!!!!! I've just never been a real fan of the big shows and sitting around all weekend when I could be racing!!!!!:LOL: Just me, though....I burned out on NSRA shows in the mid 80's.
I'd also jump right in and go with the majority's decision of a locale for a get together!!!
We have had a few of these with the other forum I am a member of,down here..It did work, but a few just didnt seem interested, for one reason or another..I like the idea,,but it would be out of our price range, down here..But we could have a regional meeting..That would be almost identical to a NZ hotrod forum meeting..Deja vu..
We have a few members down here..and at least half of them could probably get together..
I don't think "it" is something for everyone. But, like all clubs, some folks will enjoy a get together more than others, and that's fine. I actually was wondering what would draw a fella from "down under"? If it was big enough to entice a trip that large... then the "locals" would find it more than tempting. That's why I was thinking about Bonneville. It's gotta be on everyones bucket list I think.
But this will need to be about some compromises so that a majority of folks can schedule the time and accomodations can be found, etc. etc. etc.
But, it would be great if some of our southernmost club members could make the show! I'll be thinking of you!
As Johnny Cash sang, "if the Good Lord's willin' and the creek don't rise" ..... and my good wife's willin' and my doctor's willin' and my bank account 's willin' and my old Dodge is willin', then I would like to be there.
There are some hands I would look forward to shaking.
Jim
I think where and when would be the most determining factor.
For me,it would be possibly a once only chance to meet up with all you folks that I have been sharing time with for the last five years or so..Lynda and I have been talking about a trip to America,,which would probably be a 6 week trek across the country, and back,or as much as possible..The last time I was up there was in 1991,for about three weeks, and didnt do as much as I would have liked..Bonneville would be kool...maybe a bit too much heat for Lynda,though..;) What ever happens,,I feel a trip coming ...probably not for a few years yet though..
Be glad to meet you Lammy!
Now that the election is over, I think it's safe that we can begin to formulate a plan.
So what would you folks like to do? I think we've agreed with something in the central USA. But do the majority want to do a Good Guys show or NSRA show? Or maybe a race?? All of the above fit my style!! Where ever we decide, it needs an airport and hotels in a reasonable distance for obvious reasons.. SO let the drama begin!
Let's hear some ideas and if you know of a venue with a smaller show but high quality, let's hear that too! We just need some ideas for now!
Yeah, sounds like the Goodguys show in KC is out!!!! Summer is always so busy for most, maybe towards fall would work out better for a get-together????
I'll put this out there as no one else has yet......Sept 13/15 NSRA North. in Kalamazoo MI. Martin MI.(131 speedway) is 20 miles north (that 20 miles is 4 lane hwy). I haven't found out if there are any special doing at Martin that weekend. I know thats a trip for some but someone had to be first. Last Sept thee were over 2600 cars at NSRA meet
I'd definitely try to make it. I'd sure like to meet you fellas! IDK if I'd go to MI seeing how I've got 2 small kiddos, and one on the way in June- August. :) But I'll try. Oh yeah, I better have something older than 1995 to drive to huh? Haha
Hmmmm.....that's about 2200 miles for me.....very interesting......(as the wheels are turning in his head....) :D
Hmmm...
The wheels in my head are turning, turning...
We were already intending to make another trip to the States next year, and for us, September is a good time to do so.
If I were to talk sweetly to She Who Must Be Obeyed, perhaps we could work our entire trip around a CHR meeting...so long as there's a shopping arcade somewhere handy...She wouldn't have me hanging around outside with my 'I'm bored' expression...I could be off telling lies (something I'm pretty good at,) with you blokes...
Because I too would love to meet up with some of you guys!

It's not in the Fall, but one that I've always heard a lot about is the Back to the 50's Show in the Minneapolis/St Paul area June 21-23. Supposed to be a great gathering, and the Mall of America is in the area, too, but it's mid-summer. Another one a bit later that's intrigued me is Frog Follies in Evansville, Indiana August 23-25th - they claim the biggest pre-49 show anywhere with over 4000 entries each year since 2010. But if you want Fall, a friend went down for Cruisin' The Coast down in Mississippi - a week long event that drew over 6000 cars of all types this year, with the nightly cruises hosted by five or six different cities along the gulf coast - Cruisin' The Coast Just some ideas....
Hot august nights in Reno could be a good venue. Although I personally would rather travel to a show I've never been to. I attend Reno every other year.
