    Stromberg 97 Idle

    Hi Guys,

I have a new Stromberg 97 on a 3x2 set up. I have adjusted the mixture idle as per the manufacturer recommendations however I can't seem to get the idle to slow. I have backed off the idle screw so that the bracket is not even in contact with it. I noticed that I can push the bracket clockwise, down towards the manifold which gives me the slower RMP I'm after, though I feel like i'm going bend something. And upon releasing pressure, the RPM will return.

I guess my question is...where do start? I'm at work now but I thought I would pull the carb off the manifold to see if there is anything blocking the butterfly valve open.

    Thanks,

    Dustin

Lower the fuel pressure to somewhere between 2 and 3 psi using a quality fuel pressure regulator.

In addition to the above, verify the linkages aren't holding the carbs open.
We've all seen it / done it, had it happen to us. Assemble the setup only to discover the throw isn't long enough and the pedal can't travel enough and it keeps pressure on the linkage - keeping the throttle butterfly open "just enough"..

    Thanks guys,

Check on the fuel pressure regulator, I'm sitting right under 3 PSI. I unhooked the throttle cable and noted no change in RPM.

Thanks for the link, I've got some reading to do.

Well after doing some reading I came across a sentence on the Stromberg site warning of pushing the throttle arm onto the carb too far resulting in binding. So I checked mine and it was right up against the "step" of the throttle rod. I backed it off and my RPM dropped, not only dropped but I was able to adjust it.

Kinda feel stupid for starting a thread for this but alas I appreciate the help. On to the next issue ;-)

It's good you found the problem and the cure! Thanks for letting us know the outcome.
