    Pistons for MG/Minor 1100cc

A friend is doing up an 1100cc MG and the pistons are bad and have already had an insert fitted to the top edge or top ring or something.
Does anyone know of pistons from a late model Japanese (or anything really) car that will fit. The reason I ask for Japanese is that we dont get U.S. stuff here in New Zealand.

I'm no mechanic or engineer, but if anyone needs more info, i'll ask him.

    Cheer
    Phil

How about british pistons, the car is british isn't it?

If you've got some money burning a hole in your pocket, you could try these guys:http://www.wiseco.com/customorder.pdf.

    Not fussy

Brit pistons are fine, no problemo, its age and price thats the hitch. As long as I can find some in a wreckers.
I mentioned Japanese cars because New Zealand yards are full of 'em. Not much else here anymore.
Maybe Mini or Jag or Landrover pistons will fit......i'm all ears.

Thanks for the link, but money isn't burning these pockets sadly.

    Cheers
    Phil

If you can get a piston with a slightly larger bore, no more than a millimeter higher on the compression hight, and the same sized or slightly larger wrist ping, yeah, you "could" use them. Just bore the engine to fit the piston, then drill the small end of the rods to fit the pins. If the piston is slightly taller, it shouldn't matter as most engines come from the factory with the piston far from zero decked. If the skirts extend too far into the block and have interference issues with the crank, grind em off. I think you're biggest problem is going to be finding a piston that matches the combustion chamber of the MG. Oh yeah, expect to spend some time and money getting the rotating assembly balanced. It's probably going to be nowhere near the factory spec balance so heavy metals will have to be used or lots of drilling will have to be done.

pistons and new rings for the austin/morris are super cheap..... the pistons etc are the same as in Mini's,Austin Marina's,Morris Minor's and MG's... all you need to do is check it is an A series Block...and order the right size/set..explain to them and theyll sort you out..Real nice guys..
My gals ride is an Austin truck that had an A series in it...i got stuff to freshen up that real easy... i have a contact in the Uk that will ship them anywhere or i can get one of my friends in that locale to pick em up n ship to ya..
    heres the shop link... http://www.morrisminor.co.uk/index.htm

they specialise in MG,Morris and Austin Spares, aswell as Jag n other brit car marques...
    hope this is a help...

It's funny because the alternator is bigger than the engine.

ha ha .. yeah i hear ya.....it is SMALL but these are very tuneable engines.... alot of UK young drivers start out with 1000cc minis, change heads off the mini cooper n bore out to something like 1480cc..race cams, twin SU carbs, lighten n balance, ceramic clutch n big bore headers n muffler....and trust me, those lil suckers FLY!!!!
its an engine that if built right will be pretty near bulletproof and real quick..... ok so as far as i'm concerned there's 4 cyl's missin.. but the A series is a great 4 banger block...in rear wheel drive cars the Trans of choice is the 1100/1300 Austin marina..and comes with varying diff ratios in diff models..and the rear ends are pretty tough too... i pushed a tuned 1750cc thru one and it was indestructable...also they bolt straight up to the A series block , as does the FWD mini trans..... basically Austin/morris/MG all used the A series as it was an dependable, strong and reasonably powerful lightweight block... and as i explained it was used on RWD and FWD vehicles... pity other motor factors didnt make their parts soo universal huh???
    spares are hella cheap too.
The Co. that produced Minis up until a coupla yrs back still used the same basic block from start to finish of production....as far as i see it, its a case of if it aint broke dont fix it..
