What Is Your Pick For The Best Street/strip Carb
I have used a lot of carburetors over the years like most of you . And had some good and bad carbs . But I would have to say that the one that work the best right out the box was . The 750cfm Carter AFB super quad . This one was just like the Edelbrock performer 750cfm . But I dont think they are jetted the same . I had some luck with Q-JETS but the fuel wells alway seem to leak down even when repaired . Holley carbs are ok but the older ones always blow out the power valves . They do have the kit to repair this problem . I am thinking of running that Edelbrock Thunder AVS 650cfm carb . A Carter AVS carb was on my frends 1969 GTX 440 and it work real nice . What carburetor do you like and why ?

for overall useage the 600 holley is a good simple carb, now depending on your application some of us will say 600,650,750,850 and so on. for me i like the demon and holley 750 dbl pumpers, and the 830 race holley.

I run a 350 CFM Holley 2300 2bbl on my Turbocharged 200 I6.. of course it will need tuning but it was easy enough to mod for boost. Runs good w/o boost, I have yet to put boost into iyYou don't know what you've got til it's gone

The old saying is that a Holley will win on race day, but an Edelbrock will get you home from the track. Some truth to it IMO. I think Holleys are a better HP maker, but Edelbrocks are a very forgiving day to day carb.
Oh, if any of you are thinking of running two Edelbrock carbs on a two four manifold, I called Edelbrock the other day to ask how to adjust the idle screws on both carbs. They said crank in the front carb all the way and come back out 1/2 turn. Then set the rear carb to two turns out. This gives you an initial setting to start with. He also said no more than 6 psi at the carb.
I also think Edelbrocks handle dirt in the fuel somewhat better. For some reason Holleys get plugged up real fast with any small amount of dirt.

Well, if you think about it Denny, the Edelbrocks come with an initial setting of 2 and 1/4 turns out. The front carb should be largely out of the picture as the rear one is the primary. By putting the front at 1/2 and going in to 2 on the rear, you are ending up with about what one carb would normally be set at.

ive thought about those jet extensions but have never had that problem of running out of fuel on the top end, had a predator once worked awesome, as for good daily driveability i say q-jet and ive seen guys hop them up a bit and they actually work good!

My Dad was the Holley guy . Man he would spend hours working and tricking out Holleys . He ran the jet tubes and the pump shooters with tne longer nozzles . Also the larger 50cc accelerator pumps and # 98 to100 jets . The carb he like was the 850DP with the 4-corner idle screws . And a 2" 4 hole spacer . He ran it on a Pontiac 455 30 over mostly strip car .

Carb
Any flowed carb.
Pro Systems for drag cars.
Chad Baker for a any dirt car.
A customer of mine brought in an AED carb for his 496 BBC street car and picked up 14 hp and 8 lbs. of torque over a Demon carb.
He said he bought it used off the old evil-bay for $375.
I think it was a flowed 850 dp somewhere around 900 cfm.Last edited by erik erikson; 11-18-2007 at 06:18 AM.

So installing the trex bed wood got me thinking about all the heat from the exhaust and the possible melting of the wood. Also noticed the floor on the passenger side getting hot on a warm day. So...
