    Angry Exhaust bogging

I have a 78 chevy pickup w/ a 350 and when i acclerate there is a bogging felt from the engine. I have replaced the header, collecter, and cut out gaskets. I have also replaced spark plugs, distr. cap and rotor. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop this irritationg problem?

I am running a edelbrock performer intake with a 600 cfm edlbrock carb. The enigne itself is a stock 350. Could it be the timing?

could be that your distributer is retarded too much.... or you have a vaccuum leak... or your carb isn't tuned right.... or your cam is getting flat
just because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

What cam is in the engine? Stock or aftermarket and if aftermarket what are the specs? Don't tell me a 600 cfm won't support a stock cam?? If so let's recall the huge secondaries on the stock quadrajet and that the quadrajet was rated at higher cfm. I also have an Edelbrock 600 cfm on a Performer but it is not running yet and I was expecting 600 cfm would be enough for a stock cam or a very mild cam. I hope you guys can solve this before I have the same problem.

what type of choke are you running?
it may need adjusting a little.

and you may need to check the fuel pump to make sure it is pushing the right pressure. I think a stock pump puts out around 10 psi. but that is not all you should look at. disconnect the line to the carb and have it pump some fuel into a jug that you can see the flow of fuel comeing out. if its not a good steady flow than you may have a bad pump or a restricted fuel line.

try this and let me know what it's doing.

The Edelbrock carbs when purchased new come with a fairly comprehensive handbook on how to dial them in. Edelbrock also has a tuning kit available for them with various needles and springs. May want to give it a try.

If the distributor is all stock still, may have some issues with the advance mechanisms......

Vacuum advance is primarily for idle/emissions. You havent told us when its bogging. Does it get worse with heavier throttle, does it respond well under light throttle, ect. As for the 600cfm question, 600 should be enough. I think the problem here is probably a float bowl. Try raising the float a bit. If not, try leaning it back a hair.

Your float level could be to low. When you accelerate your not getting fuel to the jets. Heard about this from a guy who was having his car set up on a dyno and ran graet but bogged on launch. Also inproper setting of the idle circuit can cause a tip in hesitation. ( throttle plates open to far)
If it's not broke, fix it anyway.
