    Timing

Ok I have a 1973 SBC 350 with .040 over size bore. Gapless rings, 1.6 ratio roller rockers. Cam is .453 (I/E) w/ 230 duration. The top of the motor is 1993 TBI intake and heads. It has the computer controled distributor. Where would be my best starting point to set the timing?

if the timing is computer controled there is a plug at the dist. you have to unpluge before you can set the timing. unplug the plug and sat the timing at 5 degrees, plug the plug back up and thats all you need to do.

Ok cool. I want that at 5 deg before top dead center correct. Also this plug I need to un plug. Is it the one that goes to the coil or to the main wiring harness?

BTDC yes. i think its got 4 wires in it, but its close to the dist and its the one that after you unplug it, the motor will still run . if you unplug the wrong one the motor want run. i wish i could tell you more about it, but its one of those deals where if i was there i would know which one it is. if its any ? about if its the right plug when you unplug it and plug it back up the rpm's will change a lot, because you will be changing the timing so much. also about the timing after you set it and crank the motor up it dont do any good to move the timing after that because the computer will just put it back where it was. thought you might need to know that. the motor is runing right?

ps it will be the plug going into the main harness.
