    compression gauge questions

ok i just got a compression gauge and was wondering how to read it. for instance lets say i put it on the motor and it reads 150 how would i convert a number like that to 11:1. i am goint to check the compression tonight and just wanted to know how to convert it after i looked at the gauge and saw how it read.
    another question
my oil pressure at idle is 60psi is this way too high or ok. i put a high volume oil pump on the motor (its a '64 283)
    thanks for your help

Bottom line, you can't convert to compression ratio from compression gauge readings. Simplified, comp ratio depends on the bore, stroke, cylinder head volume, head gasket thickness, piston height relative to the block deck, and piston dome volume.

    The gauge won't tell you.

The most important thing now is to make sure that all your cylinders each measure within about 5% of the others.

Just checking a single cylinder doesn't tell you much. You have to check 'em all.

i checked them all with my dad and they were super close this is my first motor and i built it by myself not too many 16yr old kids can say that. well the thing is running great and i am super proud of it now all i have to do is hook up my cooling system. the motor is in a 73 porsche 914 so i had to save up for a while for all that radiator hose to go the the front of the car and back but it is worth it just to pull up next to one of the many mustangs in my town and blow their doors off

    1 question, 1 comment:

Question: What did your dad say when you told him that?

Comment: Some states confiscate cars involved in street racing.
