    It would be nice to have a disassembled engine laying around to check, but I only have a foam mock up engine so that's no help.

    My guess is #3.

    I say that because the way the timing marks are lined up in your post, the crank is one full turn from #1TDC. (Before you flame me here it's been no less than 25 years since my last engine build so I'm not possitive the crank is one turn off, but I think it is.). It takes 2 turns of the crank for all 8 cylinders to hit TDC.
    On a Chevy V-8 the fourth cylinder to fire (1 crank rotation from #1TDC) is #3.




    So yes, I will say #3 ................ Final answer.

    I thought about this for awhile and thought i should come back and clarify when I say TDC I am Referring to "Both valves closed" TDC.
