I've seen the 390 carbs and expensive for sure! I have a 600 manual choke edelbrock laying around what about de-tuning it abit or just running it like that? seems like it wouldn't bee too much carb for a 300 cube motor.
Seems like it should work great but just run it like it is, don't detune it unless you have to, put it in the truck and then make shure it isn't running rich and then ajust the ajustment screws, only thing you may need to do is lean out the jetting.
