I would look into the obvious common problems first, before you tear the engine down.

Is there a stone filter in the carb fuel inlet? Sometimes those plug up.

Did you look inside to see if you are getting an accelerator pump shot? That would settle that question.

Can I assume there might not be an ignition problem? You might pull a wire off, hold it close to a plug, and have someone crank it.
