I get a variety of opinions on this, never have gotten the definitive word. Still can't figure out what an engine designer would want exhaust gas in this area in the first place..heck it's an intake manifold..
No, the exhaust gases cannot get to the intake if you've removed those EGR tubes. The EGR, Exhaust Gars Recirculation, is there to send some of those gases back into the combustion chambers to be reburnt. It helps to cleanup the emissions from the tailpipe. Hope it helps.
