    Engine Building

I want to learn how to build an engine myself, hopefully a Chevrolet small block. I have done my research into the time and money needed to do this. Unfortunately, every bookstore I go to has books about engine parts, various engines, but I have yet to see anything for the beginner that actually explains the process of assembling an engine. What books or websites should I be looking to for this information? Thanks.

One of the best SB Chevy How to rebuild books is from SA Design #SA26 . It's called How To Rebuild Small Block Chevrolet stock and high-performance rebuilds . You can buy it at Borders Books $18.95 . This is a real good book that will show you the right way to rebuild the greatest engine in the world .

Does that show you basics like how to get an engine on to the stand and install it into the vehicle?

I used that book for my first build a while back, and I had almost no experience in re-building engines. Very detailed so even a beginner can feel comfortable. Shows you how to use the special tools also. Its absolutely ideal for a beginner. I thought is was great.
As for putting the engine on the stand, you need a hoist to get the engine up, the stand is using the stand pretty self explainatory, the book does touch on some tips for using the stand and which ones are better than others. No it does not show you how to put the engine in the car.

Welcome,There are many books out there.
I would try a Chilton manual,or a Michell manual or if you can try some of these half price books stores for a GM manual.
There are a few of us one here that build engines for a living or a some that are retired.
There is a lot of info. on this forum.
I for one will do my best to answer any and all questions.
Just remember the only dumb question is the one question that does not get asked.
If you don't have a digital camera now is a good time to buy one.
