    ive got a problem fellas

alright i just got a 80 silverado with a 350 engine in it
its a newer 350 due to it having the center bolt valve covers on it the guy i bought it off of said his dad put it in and he didnt remember what it was
SO i drove it home there was no PVC valve so of course oil was shooting everywhere

i put one on ...still have oil problems
i dont understand what it could be i thought about pullin the distributor out and seein if that gear was chewed off on the bottom but befor i do that if you could help me out i was be greatful haha

    thanks

Ummm. maybe a few more specifics. Is it leaking oil, no oil pressure, excessive blow-by out the tailpipes or ????

no its got a miss but i have yet to change the plugs and wires
i its not smoking or any thing well just from the oil coming out and hitting the exhaust
i donno at first i checked the dip stick and the goofball put way to much oil in it so i figured thats what it was but i drained some of the oil and its still comin out of the breather i dont have a oil pressure gauge so i donno how it reading its quit alot since i put the pvc valve on but ...still i'm baffled
    i'm baffled

maybe your valve covers aren't baffled

is it a ton of oil or just a little runnin out the breather? if thats the case use a highly baffled breather with a fitting for a transfer tube, run the transfer tube up to the air cleaner, hopefully its got a trasnfer tube fitting or provisions to ad one.... once hopefully it wont be enough oil to climb all the way up the baffle and the tube into your air cleaner.... if it is, you can get a kit to ad a filter to the end of the transfer tube inside your air cleaner.... that should take care of it

does it have new valve covers or have they been removed recently. i have no experience with chevys, but fords have a block plate below the PCV hole to keep oil from shooting up out of the hole. check and see if there is anything like that.

If it was way overfull with oil the guy may have been covering up a knock or low oil pressure.Severe oil ring blowby will cause oil to come out everywhere. It could also be that it was just overfull and you are going to have to run it to burn all the oil off in the combustion chambers. Its probably the valve cover leaking on the exhaust.

alright heres whats happend since i was last one here
i have been driving it witha slight leak
i have to get to work so i have no choice, i'm a poor guy lol
    BUT
it was comin out of the distributor yesterday and i pulled it and changed the gasket, i drained it and put 5 quarts of oil in and it runs suuuuuper rough
kinda sounds like a lifter tappin its not a knock though i dont have gauges on it so i donno what the oil pressure is i'm doin that this weekend but there is still oil comin out of the breather and it dry around the valve covers its just the breather and its runnin rough
    i donno
should i run 2 PVC vacuum lines insted of just the one?

the actual pcv should run to the base of the carb, the breather should run into the aircleaner..... i'd say the distributor is whats causing it to run rough though, probably off by a tooth or some.... try advancing and retarding timing and see if it runs any smoother... that should tell you something there.... depending on condition of rings, valve seals and valve guides, you could be getting some blowby as well

ok i drained the oil again to see if there was any metal shavings or any thing in the oil just to be safe, it sounds like hell is coming out of my engine...not in a good way lol
    its running rougher
i think something might be bent just by the way it runs and sounds
either that or the timing is waaaaaaaaaaaaay off
this is my daily so its hard for me to just pull the engine and see whats up like my other cars i'm tryin to eliminate stuff
i donno i have never had this kinda problem befor, every thing befor this truck was smooth sailing
i will take some picks tomarrow and maybe do a short video to show you guys what i'm talkin about
    link ya later
