Im wondering what you guys recomend? the 352 in my bird has 82000 miles on it ,when i took the intake, valve covers & 1 head off the moter was filthy inside, caked up w oil,my question is should i rebuild or just try to clean it out ,im just worried if it had poor oil circulation are the rings & bearings bad or scored, i just dont want to open a can of worms by taking it apart if i can just clean it up, what do you fe experts recomend?

Hotrod I feel for you. I think I can already tell you want to tear her down and build her back up better than ever. Personally, with my own diagnosed case of cranial rectosis I think I would have to do just that in order to sleep ever again.

I guess whether or not it's justified is another matter all together. But just to be sure ........... I for one say open up that can of worms, spend the money you may or may or not have, and have some fun! When you're done you'll know for sure what you've got!

If it ran good I would just put it back together and then start planning the rebuild. Like what cam, intake manifold? Carb, Heads? Maybe go for a 390 or a 427? hmmmm..... If you take it.your time and think about it, you'll be happier with it

go ahead and put her back together so you can drive her while you get everything together for a rebuild... that way you wont have as much downtime on your car and can enjoy it a little longer... i used to always just tear the motor out right when i decided it needed a rebuild before i got the stuff together, and next thing ya know you're waiting a week for parts while your car is just sitting there laughing at you
just because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

I'd clean it out and change my oil to Havoline, or Quaker State, at 82k you should be just looking at the second tune-up. Try to get ready for the build you want, and I agree with everyone else here - you might as well drive it as you go thru the parts game.
