A good intake and carb should not hurt your gas mileage, if anything it should help it if you tune the carb correctly. I prefer the Edelbrock carbs for the street, and Holley's for racing. But hey, that's just me. I can make a Holley work just as well, but in my opinion an Edelbrock takes less tuning and tinkering once you get it calibrated. The Edelbrocks come with a book that will explain all the fine tuning principles and procedures in detail.

The 600 Edelbrock is a part #1406, and I believe a 600 Holley is a part # 1850-2, not sure on the Holley, someone will correct me if I'm wrong. The Edelbrock site has a section explaing how their carbs work, might want to look at it.
