Stay away from crimp connectors...
Just became new owner of a 72 El Camino Chopped 4 in. but also rt side crashed into a pole. got me another 71 for parts and changed over the frame, disc brakes, changed to a 350 from a 305 changed the rear end to 10 bolt with 308's chopped the windshield wiper blade to fit the windshild never gave that a thought. and will have to lower the bench seat to see out the front window the guy I got it from for $650 was smaller and dumber and left some of his DNA in the car because the seats where held down with sheet metal screws.

hello i just picked up a 72 as well runs great got a 350 in it and thats about it a little rust but can be fixed brakes are a little scary and the steering wheel bounces when you turn it all the way left or right but other than that its cherry. just lookin for some advice on where to start
hey bigpat i was going to ask you a question about how to tell a true SS from a clone do you know where i can find out? the answer to yours take your time on it dont rush things it will pay off in the long run.
Hey y'all,
I just picked up a '73 a few weeks ago.
the body is pretty straight but there is some light rust under the vinyl top.
The engine is a smallblock 350. All of the running gear seems to be original, except for a few drop-in mods that the previous owner did. (chrome valve covers, 14 inch chrome air cleaner, etc.)
It runs well and is a great daily driver. Once I rebuild the guts and cure it's case of ugly, it ought to be a beauty.
(The last owner used cheap white acrylic paint with some homepainted blue/purple graphics:HMMM: )
Time and work should make her shine though.
Aren't ElCo's great?
I have an 86 Caballero, i dont think its considered a "classic" but i like it, rebuilding a 350 for it goin in front of a 350 tans and hopefully a 373 rear, black with the original graphics for a diablo, i have also been looking for functional side pipes, YoungMalibu has some on his G body but he hasnt PMed me back yet oh well, If you guys arent already members you should check out Elcaminocentral.com its full of info and wonderful elkys
Had a 71 with an identity crisis for a while. did a impersionation of a 4x4, rally car, and 'Dukes of Hazard' charger on me. Was way into the throttle, hit some nice glare of the late afternoon sun, saw the turn too late, went through a small field where at the end of the field there was a nice berm of dirt left over from someone building a driveway. the berm was in perfect ramp like form and I ended up jumping the driveway. cleared it by about 6 - 8 feet both up and out. frame damage was too much for me to fix so it got sold. I wish every other day i still had that car.
anyone looking for a camper/topper for 70-72? white with blue tinted windows. sweet retro look and great for road trips.
I just sold my 59 Elky. i was sad to see her go. they were the best ones chevy ever buillt IMO next to the 65's.Quote:
