Disaster averted, again.
Remember the troubles I had with breaking the axle studs? Well, I replaced them with brand new ones and thought my troubles were over. I made 4 passes on the new studs, while I ordered a set of 5/8" replacements. When I removed the recently replaced 1/2" ones, I found that every one of them were bent. The new BIG studs are in, and I will be installing the axles tonight, in fact, right now. My other choice is to not launch at 4300 RPM anymore. I'm afraid that's not an option though.Mike Casella

Thos' 5/8" studs are a little spendy ey'. M/W were 'bout 100 bux. Cheaper than being rudely introduced to the barrier wall tho HUH. Little harder to get the wheel off N' on.Originally posted by pro60chevy

No fair, I was out in the garage wrestlin with those damn tires. The studs didn't break whilst I was drivin, thank God. I was parking and the tire just sort of flopped over like the Artie Johnson on his tricycle did.
Anyway, the tires are on, now what is the torque on these 5/8 studs supposed to be? Should these go to 110 ftlbs?

Here's what I bought. I've only got mine finger tight right now. Your application MAY require more torque that that however.Originally posted by pro60chevy

They say 40-45 Lbs. on the lock nuts, 50-60 for studs & 85-90 for the lugs??? Go figure.Last edited by pro70z28; 06-22-2004 at 07:26 PM.

That low torque requirement may have something to do with the nuts being aluminum. The ones I got are Moroso #46140, and they tell you to thread the stud into the axle flange. I see MW says to just drill the flange. The nuts are steel, and I sure hope these studs are made from Kryptonite or some other material from outter space. They were only $84.00.Originally posted by pro70z28
