I know what you mean about being one with the car, I kinda got that just working on everyone else s car. It seems this year I'd do better just working on a routine (and a list) just to get some consistency.

Well, I don't think I'd want a tranny brake just because of what it would do to two perfectly working clutch packs. I'll do a brake line hold or just keep the brake pedal mashed. In my set up so far, the tranny will be the weakest point now. I will be building another tranny but it's just another THM 350 like the one in the car. I'll put in heavy duty friction discs, a case saver and a shift kit. Bout all I can think of. The question's still out for a looser converter and how much looser it should be.

I bought two race tires but they're for off-road racing or dirt track. They have a thin tread on em. I have no idea if they like to be heated or not. I'm running 17 psi in em an they seem to grip soooo much better than the street tires. Heating or not don't seem to make a difference. Plus side is I can spray right off instead of waiting for third gear. Only bad side is car seems wobbly. I just don't know about these kind of tires. I was trying for something I could afford but at the end the set up was still $300 plus.

Ohyeah, I got the purge snozzle figured out. I bought one of them gangster tuner blue light windshield washer sprayer nozzles. That'll do the trick.

OK, so I get a brake line solenoid for sure then. And a gauge I guess.

I sure appreciate all the help you guys. I find that drag racers can be the kindest people in the world .. Until they get on the track!

something else that will pay dividends for low costs. Keep a log book of each run! Record important data like temperatures, humidity, tire pressures, E.T. / speed, gauge pressures, anything that you find important! Then you will begin to see patterns develop, like when it's really hot out you'll know why the car slows down. You'll get so good that you can predict what the car will run before the race.

If it's still a dual duty car, daily driver / race car, I'd stay away from a loose converter for now. Any gains in speed / E.T. will be traded for higher tranny temps during the week and higher fuel costs too. The last thing you need is to eat a tranny on your way to work 'cause of your racing. Just my opinion.

Good opinion I'd say. The car eats us out of house and home in fuel costs. Besides, that saves me $200 and two days work. I'm just trying to get the thing in the 13s and 100 mph. And now i'm grasping at straws. It still needs to get me to work and grocery runs. And it's our drag car too. We can't afford another car for now so, it's all we got. And time is passing by unfortunately. If we're to race it's gotta be now. Heavy car or not. I'd sure hate to shed my mortal coil without doing something I wanted to do all my life. So, I gotta make this car work somehow.Any advice I get I contemplate ad appreciate all and any advice I get.

OK, I got an extra nitrous bottle. Should I mount it in and tee off the two bottles or just run with one and switch em?
And, What can I do to run 13s and 100 mph? With a heavy car?

Best Monte Carlo like mine was pro-street stripped and ran in the 11s. Not too impressive,

Yuppers!!!! Do anything to help you out----unless you pull up to staging against me!!!!!! My most favorite guy to put on the trailer and my least favorite guy to have to run against is my pal Rog.----I've built two cars for him, raced out of the same shop for 15 years or so, travel together when we go racing down South in the winter, but when I stage against him I'll try to burn him down, deep stage on him, slow stage, quick stage, most anything to get in his head!!! Then I'll bust my butt to help him get ready for the next round if he beats me and vice-versa if I beat him!!!!!

As I am cheering you on from the cheap seats,my advise is to be the one everyone copies.Do those things that no one has and by the time they figure it out you have moved onto something else.Always look at things like a third party.Look at your RT's and 60' times and decide if it's the driver or the car.Like I said,if a trans brake is allowed,at some point you would want to consider it and especially if no one else has one.I remember lift/traction bars for the rear end of a Chevelle and they are a cheap mod.I think they work for your car too.But be the innervater (sp).

On the topic of weight. I would only run one bottle at a time and here's why. You said it yourself, it's a heavy car so you don't want to go making it heavier! And what some of us used to do was simple things like remove the back seat, remove the glove box, anything that isn't needed is weight and has to go. There used to be a saying about trying to remove a pound of weight, look for 16 1 ounce items! Best thing about weight reduction? It can be done cheap!

I know all about being cheap! I preferred to say frugal! I used to drive 3 hours, into New Hampshire pull off the D.O.T. tires and bolt the slicks on, Had a little pile in the pits, tool box, tires, gas can, oil & filter(s), mufflers w'pipes , belts and etc. etc. My cleveland based motor loved to eat pushrods if I missed a shift or wound it to tight between gears. I wasn't really fast but it was mine and I was having fun! On the bigger 2 or 3 day meets, I'd sleep under the rear of the car in a sleeping bag! Tracks won't let you stay on the property nowadays! Anyway, it was also a dual duty car as it had to get me back to work on monday! Heck, it had to get me home sunday night! And I was usually broke after paying entrance fees! I didn't even have enough gas for extra rounds.

So your not the first, and we're glad to see a young guy live the dream and we'll help where we can!

Ohh, I really think it's the driver .My reaction time is all over the map. My timeslips tell the tale for sure.
About half the cars competing have trans brakes, you can tell others have the brake solenoids. just a few like ours have nothing.
I sure wish we had leaf springs, ours are coils with 4 links holding the diff. I need to raise the front of the carrier 5 degrees but I can't find any aftermarket links for our car. I tell you, there is a big void of aftermarket parts for the 1973-1977 Montes. If I had the bucks, that field would be wide open. So, half of what we do is innovative by default.

    Makes sense!

Mrs GW keeps saying "Take out the radio"

Boy, it sounds like a lot of fun! especially the adventure sleeping under the car. I did that with a bus that I had to change a rear bearing on. To me, that's living.

well, At least I'm not alone racing the work car. Mrs GW says the car can break down even going to work and i'd still hafta fix it on the side of the road. Besides, if we waited until it was safe to do anything we wouldn't do anything. I wouldhave never got married......Hmmm, more money for races....race cars.....entrance fees......

Don't tell Mrs GW I wrote this

Ok, I ordered the brake line lock (Everything is all solenoids!) So, unless I'm missing something I should have everything I need for drag racing.

Is there anything else I need?
