Why don't you make a few passes at the strip with the gears you have in it now and see if you run out of motor before the lights. If so, make a note of where you max out (in feet) before the lights and also what your mph is through the lights on your timing slip.

If you do run out of motor, its easier to change to a larger diameter tire than to change gears.
