That's not a very strong argument. The old guys aren't one bit afraid of change its that we never had any input about it and we are being lied to by the NSRA leadership so they can cover their a$$es.

We don't want the change because we happen to like the fact that up till now the NSRA has always been a pre-49 organization. That's what we paid good money to be a part of and if the NSRA wants to change what it is, and this change WILL do just that, then those of us who don't want to belong to a "bring any POS" organization will just drop out and go our own way.

I for one will be looking forward to someone starting a new pre-49 organization and will jump at the chance to be a member. Hopefully someone with the time and organizational skills will take up that mission and make it real. We can only hope. As far as the NSRA is concerned..... its history.

Just what is it some of you have against post '49 cars anyway???? Or maybe it's the people who drive them???? I've had a bunch of different years.... from '23 T buckets, A's, deuces, 40's stuff, 50's customs, muscle cars, low riders....and most everything else.... They were all fun, and made a lot of friends (and a few enemies) with 'most every one of them....

Anyway, no fair looking at attendance this year, attendance at every kind of event is down..... But hey, it's your decision to stay home. Maybe just fire up the grille and pout?????? Sorry guys, change is inevitable. Deal with it.

You were never asked because you are a member not on the board. Does your bank ask you before they change rates?

As far as someone with time and orginizational skills they will also need a ton of money to be able to rent venues, cover insurance cost, advertising and such.....then you will need to get vendors there on weekends that they are not already booked. Like I said before without them you are paying to go sit in a parking lot

I didn't PAY my bank to open an account and if they raise the rates I have the option of closing my account and going somewhere else...... and that's exactly what I'm going to do.

You work for a vendor that is non year specific so your view is biased in that the more years of cars that are allowed in, the better it is for your business. I would like to here from those vendors who deal strictly with the street rod business. I would like to here what they think about the fact their potential customer base will be diluted with people who aren't remotely interested in their product. You see there are two sides to every issue.

Nothing. We would just rather attend shows where we don't have to mess with cars we aren't necessarily interested in. Although I have a factory big block 4 speed 64 Polara it does not belong in a street rod show, but on the other hand my Deuce does. Its that simple and for the life of me I can't understand why some people can't understand the difference. Catagorizing is the crock!!!!!! A Hot Rod is a Hot Rod, pure and simple.... I guess I will never understand the difference, or why people think there should be a difference. Regardless of what vintage it is, people put the same amount of time, money, and work into their rides and should be able to put them in any show they want to. Fit, finish, and detail determine the quality of the build, not the (alleged) vintage that it resembles...... Open shows show what a huge variety there is in the world of Hot Rodding.

As for starting a pre-49 only organization and show, think it's a great idea. Maybe it should be limited to real steel cars with the usual dime a dozen 350/350 combination???? Problem is, other then deuce owners, not a lot of people, enthusiast or the general public, want to go see a gazillion deuces all lined up. Better throw in a couple of them 4 speed Polara's and even an '83 Mustang to generate a bit more interest. Unless the car counts and attendance is up at the shows, no organization is going to last very long. Money is a bit tight, and the majority of people are going to hit a show that will show the biggest diversification of cars and styles to get the most bang for the buck.

Lots of us are just plain bored with deuces, had too many, built too many, and seen waaaaaaaay too many. Something showing a bit of innovation rather then just the same old thing done in a slightly different way has got to be part of the show to maintain interest and, even more importantly, to generate new interest.

NSRA is not going to change their minds because of a few malcontents.... Wouldn't it be better the accept the inevitable change then just to stay home and whine about it??????

It is not just a FEW ... malcontents ... is is almost half or more.

There are differences. Even horse shows have different events for their own kind.

Tennessee Walkers do not go to the Arabian events. Morgans have their own events, as do Quarter Horses and Paints. Palominos do not go the Mule/Donkey events. You cannot convince me this 78 Chevette ... is something you would ride 550 miles one way to see. How far is it from South Dakota to Louisville and

Going 33 and 1/3 rpms in a IPOD world......I think that sums up what I have been saying for a while. Change happens like it or not.

Will I go in the future when all cars are welcome??? You betcha!!!!

I don't go to horse shows... Could care less what there rules are.... But I have been known to go to dog shows, and even once a cat show.... They welcome all, and give awards for best of breed, and best of show..... Funniest part is, they've even trained all the different breeds of dogs to get along while they're at the show!!!!!! Maybe somebody could train Hot Rodders to do the same!!!!!!!!!!!

But a Hot Rod is not necessarily a STREET ROD and it is not necessarily a CUSTOM nor is it necessarily a MUSCLE CAR or a TUNER.

Face it there are different categories for just about everything. There's even a category for people who deny there are categories. It is VERY interesting to me that the most vocal proponent of this stupid 30 year rule hasn't attended an NSRA event in years... but all of a sudden his hand goes up like a school boy and it's, "I'll go, I'll go. Talk about a crock.....

You're right, it is a crock that a lot of us don't want to go to NSRA events and associate with the "If it ain't a Street Rod it ain't" crowd..... did ya ever think that's just maybe the reason NSRA is allowing other cars into the shows????

Maybe you alleged "Street Rods ONLY" types are the problem, and not the solution.....

Anyway, just keep whining about it and hoping someone starts another private little club for those who choose to not appreciate the fact that it takes more then one type of car to have a well attended and successful show.... NSRA has made their decision, and I think it's a good one.... Catagories only divide Hot Rodders and does nothing to bring Hot Rodders together and be an effective voice against government and others' actions to do away with the sport.....

Anyway, the rules have changed at NSRA and I'll probably again attend some of the events as will many others. If you and others aren't there and choose to stay home whining and hoping that someone will start a new club because they hate the thought of associating with the rest of us, so be it. But I betcha I know who'll enjoy the weekend more!!!!

WOW!!! What a comment when the NSRA Nats is the largest car show in the world and with only pre 49. It is amazing what how niave some can be. It seems they just want to ruin a good thing.

I am 61 years old and have no need for a IPOD or most of the newer electrical doohickies. ALL changes are not good. I was a HOT RODDER before November the 8th, 1969. Things were better back then ... IHMO.

Back then if you saw a old car ( I was in Gatlinburg TN at the ROD RUN in 1969 ) ... is was a old car ... not a plastic, fake copy of one. Same for a great set of Boobies. They were real ... not fake. Most folks word was real then also.

I do agree that NSRA will not change this policy. They think it will bring in more money ( just like you want to sell more wax ...) which by the way ... is GOOD wax. I like the " Quick Detailer " a lot ...

The 30 year rule is going to be a complete and total screw up.

If I wanted to go to the Goodguys Nationals, I would have driven to Columbus.....I didn't.

I didn't go to Nashville either. It was only 30 or so miles from my house.

Nope. It's greed pure and simple. Do YOU think the NSRA gives a damn about which cars attend an event??? They could care less and this stupid decision is strictly based on the one thing they care about.... MONEY. That seems to be all the NSRA is about any more....lies and greed. They lie to cover up their greed and that little mistake will alienate its core membership. If you think the attendance at this year's Nats will be down just wait till next year. I'm betting it will be more along the lines of GoodGuys Columbus with maybe 5000 cars in attendance no matter what the economy does. It will take the NSAR a good 10 years or more to recover from this stupid mistake.
