Where were you in 62? That was from American Graffiti, I’d bet there is not one car guy on this site that has not seen or at least heard of that movie. If they did a remake of the movie, and left off the where were you in 62, and had late model cars, Mustangs, Camaros, Corvettes plus other late model cars it would be totally different. It would not remind us of the good old days, as we like to refer to them, as we like to think they were.

Most of us car guys have several cars, and could take them all to the new NSRA with the new rules of 30 year old cars but we know there are several places to take them beside the Nats. The NSRA is a big organization they have some shows where they let later model cars in but it would have been nice to try keep what Street Rodders like to see at the Big Show.

Just a lurker here--but have read these and many other posts about the change--I have mixed feelings. Have only owned streetrods for about 7 years now--always had a street machine of sorts--mostly tri-fives. We enjoy Louisville--only NSRA event we go to. We travel with a group of CAR people and friends and that is why we go. Most own street rods but some like my self own newer rods. I guess we go with friends to enjoy their company and have a good time. Have made many new friends along the way with many different types of car. Will give it a look see and make a decision later. Just my opinion

The past couple of years Louisville weather has been miserable. Heat indexes over 100* is the norm. I can suffer through it because it is the only place in the world where you get a chance to check out that many pre-48's in one place.

I'm not going through hell to look at Camaros, Mustangs, and donked out Impalas!

As to Lou'ville, I went several years back and it was hotter than Hades. 115 on the tarmac. I've always wanted to go back but swore I wouldn't until the temps were right. No fun just sitting in the air conditioned halls because the weather is miserable and you constantly feel drained by the heat. Might as well move it to Tombstone AZ or the Big Easy.:eek::LOL::LOL:

Just because NSRA changed the admission rules won't stop me from returning when the time is right. Despite the heat we had a lot of fun.:D

Sorryy about missing your PM, I assume it was over on SRC. I had a lot of messaging problems over there so there was times I went months without seeing or getting messages. Over here the system is just so much better so I don't miss anything unless I have no computer access. You guys from the mid west are lucky in that Louisville is so close. For me it's a 2 day trip and when it's hot it's hot, especially in a non a/c car and no soft top.:eek::(:(

I still visit over at SRC but don't participate as much as I use to. Still got a number of friends over there that I see (in person) from time to time. There's a lot of really good people here and some that have ventured over from SRC, so hopefully you will check in from time to time, as this is a very good place to be.:D

It is a well accepted fact to the BEST predictor of Future performance is the past. :D Just look at the NSRA events where they have already let the later models in. The Richmond VA event is going down on registrations numbers ... and the later model vehicles per centages are increasing. The pre 49 crowd ... is not going ... This will be what happens to the Nationals in the future ... IMHO.

Been to a few Car Craft events and they are ... NOT ... even as good as a GoodGuy event ... to a pre 49 type of guy :( . Very few pre WWII vehicles there. At least GoodGuys has some pre WWII vehicles.

... BUT ... That is WHY there are different types of events ... Different folks like different vehicles.

I like the NSRA ... like it was ... and so do a lot of others :)

It will be interesting to seee what happens ...

The pre-49 cars aren't going??? Oh well, betcha everybody has a good time without ya!!!! But if you 3 guys stay home and still be mad about the changes, that'll really teach everybody else a lesson!!!!! All events are down on attendance this year, NASCAR, NHRA, all the car shows, and most every other sporting event. Heck, they're is even tickets available for the Bristol race.... I believe, as do most others, that the declining numbers at NSRA events with post-49's in attendance is more a sign of the current economic conditions then it is anything else....... But hey, if you want to take the credit for it that's fine with me.....

Anyway, the facts remain the same.... The days of Pre-49 only events are numbered....Doesn't really matter what you or I think about that. There is just not the interest in them that there was in the past. Most people would rather have a diversity of cars at a show which is why NSRA changed the rules. More people and more cars means more money and that's what is going to be the determining factor in who the event is open too......Either accept the change or not......it takes big bucks to put on these events, and the promotors are going where the bucks are...... Hot Rodding is such a lucrative and diverse market that it is no longer economically feasible to cater to one type of car at the exclusion of all others.... In the car show world, just as any other kind of endeavor, change is inevitable.......

Pure unadulterated BS. If you had bothered to attend the Nats in Louisville you would have seen 10000-13000 pre-49 cars show up every year. Interest isn't waining its the NSRA management's greed that is behind this change. They are charging the vendors huge rates, they've raised the walk in prices, and the city has lowered the cost for the venue over the years. All the NSRA wants is the money and they don't give a damn how they get it. Hence the lying about the supposed 98% of members who want this change. Maybe 98% of the Walker family but certainly not even 10% of NSRA members.

Personally I can't wait till the awards ceremony on Sunday to see how Vernon handles the constant booing and heckling he's going to receive when he's on stage. If you think back far enough you'll remember they tried this once before around 1980 and the MEMBERS let them know in no uncertain terms that they wouldn't stand for it. The same will happen this time..... or the NSRA will find itself fading into history. You can't piss off the vast majority of your members and succeed. When you alienate your members like that all they'll do is find somewhere else to go..... and there are a lot of shows to choose from. Frog follies, Back to the 50's, Hot August Nights etc. Yes they are multi year events but why spend the money to drive across the country to attend a show that looks like a KMart parking lot when you can attend something closer.

A lot of members won't go back to the NSRA simply because their management lies and has no respect for its members. You know, the people who are actually responsible for the NSRA's success. From everything they have done on this issue its pretty obvious NSRA management believes their members must be stupid.... otherwise they wouldn't lie and expect us to believe it. Yep.... Vernon better be wearing a flack jacket on Sunday.
