Thread: 32 Front Spreader Bar License Plate Brackets

Thanks guys ... ...my problem is I'm in Australia and so will have to order the brackets online - every store I've looked at - I can't find them. Does anyone have a name of a store I can order online from??

The hidden one looks cool, but unfortunately I can't use it as it's not a plain metal plate, it's pre-framed perspex...

Thanks for your help in advance if anyone can point me in the right direction.

One thing you may be able to do is make your own from aluminum connecting rods.

The front spreader bar on the 32 shown above is 2" OD.
It also doubles as a skin effects radiator and cools the transmission oil.
Here's a little different view.

Ford small blocks have a 2" rod journal.
Meaning that a connecting rod - aluminum or otherwise - will clamp onto 2" tubing.
Shims could be required, but probably not.

An aluminum connecting rod cut off square then drilled and tapped for the license plate bolt would be easily done.

Other easy part would be buffing to a high shine if desired.

If you or your pals are coming to the US for one of the big car show deals - March Meet, California Hot Rod Reunion etc. you can walk the swap meet and there's almost always someone selling aluminum connecting rods.
Some are used, many are rejects from the manufacturer.
I've bought 6 of them so far, all priced at $5. US each.

They make great tailpipe hangers as well.

The stock 32 Fords have a 1 1/2" spreader bar tubing diameter.
The 2" OD spreader bar on my 32 looks ok, no one has noticed the larger diameter tubing.
Along those same lines my 31 on 32 rails project has a trans cooler/spreader bar made from 1 3/4" OD tubing.
This one - as is obvious - looks closer to the 1 1/2" stock tubing size.
With either the 1 3/4" or 2" OD tubing, you can make a shim/adapter that will allow the use of an aluminum small block Ford connecting rod.

You could also use a steel connecting rod and have it chrome plated once it was cut down for license plate bracket use.
Along with making your own bracket from 1/2" - 3/4" flat plate aluminum.
