When you get ALL that stuff in the trunk ... and have to get the registration papers out ... it is under all that stuff ... :) and being a man ... digging in the trunk for the papres makes a Policeman a little nervous ... he is concerned you might come up with a pistol. Maybe a female driver would not upset them as much.

I have had Police draw their weapon on me ... even after I explained that the registration was under the seat. Course I am 6 foot 2 inches and large ...

Deuce, do you know offhand if the three window dash is a bolt-in to the five window?

Reason I ask is when I was in high school, a guy a year ahead of me had a very nice five window and I heard that he was running a three window dash.

The only pic I have of it has the steering wheel blocking the view of the dashes right side.

I always thought that perhaps the three window dash made more room for instruments, but maybe it was for the glove box.

I've never owned a Duece, but I owned both a '36 5 window and a '40 2dr sedan in the '60's and have been messing with cars since the late '50's. I do admit ,though, that my knowledge of '32 Fords is a bit inadequate. :rolleyes:

Your choice of projects .. a 66 Ford and a 75 Plymouth indicates where your current interest is ... and the fact that you cannot spell DEUCE ... :D

The 3W 32 Ford was the first Ford to have a glove box ... but Ford did start installing them soon after ...

;) But all is cool ... my knowledge of Mustangs and Dusters is very limited ... I never owned any of those ... :eek:

No ... it is very different ...

A 5W dash is a closed car dash ( Tudor, Fordor, 5 W, Victoria ect. )
The 3W dash is all by itself.

This 5 window dash ... is held on by 7 screws ( factory set up ) ... and the screws go thru the dash into the body ...

The 3W dash has a few bolts that hold it to the upper lip of the dash rail on the body and are concealed by the windshield frame ... and has a bolt on each side on the lower rail of the dash where the dash is close the the body ... just about where the door latch is ( see photo )

Here is a 32 3W dash that has been modified ...
filled the glove box and the cigar hole and after market SW gauges installed. :)

NAH ... I am just very focused on 32 Fords ... :3dSMILE:

On most other things ... I am hopelessly LOST ... and wandering around behind the barn like a little lost sheep ... :whacked:

Always wondered about that.

If . . . a guy wanted to, looks like he could knock out a 1/4" aluminum glove box lid and paint it to match the dash.

With appropriate hinges and ledges inside . . . as well as the box proper.

Not sure if I'd do it, just thinking out loud.

I got room though.

Hinge it at the top and drive everyone crazy....:LOL:

Brookville sells the repro glove box doors and the ash tray is made in repro also ... if you wanted to take the easier way out ... :D

After looking at their 32 cowl vent kit I'm afraid to look at a glove box lid.:LOL:

Anyhoo, I want to put a cowl vent in the 31 A roadster - Brookville body, so no probs with a cowl gas tank.

The 32 cowl vent is 5" x 14" I believe.
Seems like some older mini pickups have a similar sized cowl vent, but I'm not completely sure.

Suggestions anyone?

C9 ... if you want me to make a outline pattern of my Henry 3W glove box door so you can make yourself a aluminum one ... just PM me over on " Ryan's place "

new 32 roadster

Its been my experience that, as some noted, it isn't a good idea to be reaching into the glove box, or even worse getting out and heading for the trunk, when the trooper is approaching. I have found that having your license, registration, and insurance card in hand, along with a good attitude, can keep you out of trouble. It must work because I am going on 37 years now without a ticket, and I definitely don't drive that legally!

Returning to the original question posed, '32 roadsters don't have a glove box and I don't wish to add one. So, answering my own initial question I have for now decided to use a plastic CD sleeve (not a hard case) which I stuck up under the seat between the spring and padding. You can reach under the front of the seat and have it out in seconds. We'll see how well it works the next time that nearly-empty freeway in front of my house is too enticing, and smokey is hiding waiting for the ricers again.

Thanks for all the great responses. The new 32 hit the road for the first time August 5 and picked up its first trophy with 52 miles on the odometer. To make the day even more memorable I got to pose with it and my very first car, a '30 roadster I built in 1965, which also showed up at the same event. A fun day for sure.
