Rod Bods Dealer along the East Coast?????

I agree with you on the westcott body! Westcott is an Awesome Company that takes great pride in there work. The reason I went with the N.A.M. body is because I think they turn out just as good of bodies as Westcott but I KNOW that the N.A.M. body is dead on the money to that of a original 32 except the main factor of it being fiberglass. I just took my time going through all the companies that made 32 5-window bodies and it came down to Westcott, Downs, and New Age Motorsports. I went with the N.A.M. based on Ed wanting to work with me getting a 100% accurate body. Believe me there are not too many companies willing to start changing there stuff just to help out one guy! As for steal deuces, I love the hell out of them! but the reason I sold mine was that it needed a TON of body work! I am no body man nor do I have the type of money that it would have taken to make it right so I let some who either had the money or know how take it off my hands for a very fair price. Let me put it to you like this, If I would have put my body on ebay I would have doubled my money!! Now I'm not saying I don't like money but I DON"T like bending good hard working people over either. I just say what ever you have either steal or fiberglass JUST DRIVE IT! Hell 1/2 the people who go to cars shows couldn't tell you what it was made out of anyway! OH YEAH, I really do love everyone's deuces posted here!!!!

This little 5W ... was at the Charlotte Good Guys 2007event this past Saturday ... Look at the price ( 20 grand ) and then look at " make offer " .

All of the expensive stuff was with the car ... dash, garnish molding, original seat frame, grill shell, fenders, fuel tank, original headlights and bar ... ect ... :) Throw away the aborted attempted 352 Ford motor :CRY: ... and start to work ... for less than 20 grand ...

Deuce: As you noticed, I had smiley faces after my comment. I said it tongue in cheek, but that is hard to convey with a keyboard.

Yeah, I know there are still some bargains out there, and you have posted a few examples. But if you start with a rough $ 25,000.00 Deuce, you are going to have a minimum of $ 50-60,000 in it when done. That is a heavy hit for most guys, me included. There is no way around it, building a '32 is just very much more expensive that almost any other year. Not only is the price of admission high, but parts are more also.

BTW, I envy you for your find. Those pictures look like they were taken in days past. You don't see them like that very often.

There is a '32 running on Ebay right now, admittedly a very nice show quality car, and he has included a tally of what he spent building it. Thought this might be interesting. Hope it posts clearly enough to read.

The fact is ... all hot rods cost a good bit of money now ... :HMMM:
The only REAL difference in a 32 Ford and a lot of other rods is the Buy In price $$$ ... IMHO ...

I have a guy I know ... ( a smart A$$ ... know it all type ) who said he was NOT going to spend a ton of cash on a Street rod and yet have a Nice car when he was done because was was going to start with a Cheap, inexpensive buy in project car. **)

He bought a 1940 Chevrolet 4 door ... for $500. ( some years ago )
The V8 Chevrolet engine he used ... cost as much as most rodders engines :confused:
The same goes for the transmission and rear end.
He bought a name brand wiring kit.
He bought more new glass than most ( 4 doors )
He bought more rubber than most ( 4 doors )
His 4 rims and tires cost about what everyone else spent ... :rolleyes:
He paid more for paint and bodywork ( big car and kinda rough )
He bought some items two or three times ... ( because it was not a " common build " he was in new territory and had to find out on his own ... what worked and what did not

In the end ... he has about 10 to 15 grand less in his than I do my 32 Roadster ( the Buy in price difference ) ... but he cannot understand why he cannot sell it for decent money ( he hates the car ... :eek: ) and he never gets any awards or magazine shots :LOL:

He wanted a Hot Rod and build a 4 door Street Rod cruiser ... :p

Thanks for the kind words on my coupe ... It sat in a shed since 1958.
I will be DEEP ... in this 3W ... :( I am already way deeper in it than my roadster. But then I bought the roadster way back in the day ...

This 3W will most likely be my last car project. I tend to buy a car and keep it. I sold another Hiboy steel 32 roadster in the late 70's and have bought and sold 2 40 Ford coupes in the past 10 years. I am not a wheeler-dealer-trader type ...

I had seen that 32 before on eBay ... and it did not sell. Barrett-Jackson has really influenced folks thinking and pricing ...

That little summary is pretty much worthless. No detail. And $15k a month for six months? The guy has more money than sense. That looks to be two guys at $50.00 per hour for six months. What were they working with? A hammer and chisel? Looks like he got taken to the cleaners.

Simply put, in order to build a Original Steel Duece these days, you need to be either a masterful fabricator/rod builder, or just plain loaded - So you can pay to have it built.

When starting with a old steel car you have to submerge yourself into the rough waters of dissassembly, removing bolts, which have been tight for 75 years, rust removal, rot repair, etc.

When starting with a new body, eveything goes up from the beggining as actual assembly can begin almost immediately. This is much more positive working time spent achieving your goals, and there will be much less time working before a car will be at a driveable point. Unless of course you're building a 100 point car. But you better have some deep pockets, and/or alot of free time. If you're building a car with the intention of driving it often, the aforementioned expendature would be totally nuts. Even some of the steel repro bodies require alot of work according to Dave at Brizio's. All the metal bodies have microscopic rust from day one. The body will rust or show fatigue cracks somewhere in the future.

My father once spotted a steel 5 window hiboy, chopped for 60 bucks back in 1959. Were'nt those the days.

P.S. Hiboygal, keep your #7 wescott body, You've had no problems with it, and its fiberglass construction will continue to serve you well for years to come. Not to mention, it didnt need any structural work when new. Plus, you're having just as much fun as the next rodder with a steel car. :toocool:

You are right on the money! I just think some people are true hot rodders and in their minds ALL cars must be steal. I guess those poor Corvette guys are in for a rude wake up call when they find out there cars are NOT really cars! Hey, I have always said if you have the money to buy steal then by steal! BUT there is nothing wrong with having a fiberglass car either. I can find a million fiberglass cars today, but finding a GOOD deal on an original 32 body that I can afford, well lets just say I might die of old age first! Hell, I'm only 37 now.

I can still fool ANYONE with my deuce from N.A.M. and from what I hear the guys at Brizio's fell in love with the N.A.M. body at a show in California so I guess Ed and the boys over there have to know what they are doing in my book!
