But I know a Wescott roadster, done correctly ... holds up for 20 years and more ... ( have a friend with one ) ... and I know their quality ...

Nothing against NEW Age :rolleyes: ... But I will just recommend what I know to be good and proven so ... over the years ... Gibbons used to be pretty good also ... and look what they became ... New Age has a LONG way to go to convince us old timers ... :)

Dee Wescott is working on a 5 window body right now. If he doesn't get distracted too much it should come out next year. Lots of little tweaks that should be very appealing (e.g. roadster quarters). A not very risky prediction....................Wescott will become the preferred 5w glass body of the hobby.

I know New Age has to prove it's self, but it takes new people buying there product to see what I am talking about. Gibbon, come on that thing looked like a plastic car, didn't you see the drip rails on that thing? I'm not here to knock anybodies make, God knows I think that there is enuff of that going on but I do want to stress the Quality of the New Age Motorsports body. These new bodies are being all hand laid and are quite heavy do to the thickness of the fiberglass and the steel and wood that goes into these babies. I think maybe New Age is getting some crap from there earlier bodies which happened to be the old Flatlanders molds. Just a quick note to everyone reading this, New Age no longer uses those molds. New Age has created there own new molds to more accurate to that of the original 32 and also to be alot more friendly to the customers putting fit together. Hey, I sold my original henery 32 5-window to get this and it was the smartest thing I have done in a long time. I always say to people, " If Henery Ford would have had the technology of fiberglass, They would have been built out of fiberglass!" because we all know how Henery was!
Deuce, I am happy you have a original 3 window! In fact I think that is real Kool!!!! However not everyone can get one of those, so thats why I want people to check out New Age. That is if they want a TRUE QUALITY BODY that REALLY LOOKS LIKE A REAL 32.

what is the weight difference between this body and the original you had

Really Hard to say, My old steal body did not have floors. I can say this, the original body is like a beer can when compaired to this N.A.M. body. If I had to put a weight on the N.A.M. body I would say 335 to 350 pounds. This is just a guess! I can say that I used to put the original 32 body on the chassis by my self but there is no way in hell I could do it with this new body. Hope this answers your questions. OH, by the way I do not miss the old body at all, I just wish I would have bought this N.A.M. body a lot sooner than what I did.

I would have loved to have a steel body on my roadster but it had a Wescott body on it when I bought it. While tracking down the history of my roadster I found that the body on my car is Wescott body #7 :eek: . That means the seventh body they ever sold. Now thats' OLD. :)

As I said I am not fond of glass bodies but I have to state the facts: After all these years, the body is till SOLID and I cannot for the love of me find a single crack or spidering anywhere. The only issue I have which will need fixing is the doors and trunk deck are now slightly out of alignment. The doors close very nicely, no problem there, but the bottom seem "out" (flare out a bit from the body). Note that the doors were aligned perfectly back in 2002 said Eric, who owned the car at the time.

NOTE: I am endorsing noone, but thought I would share my own observation and experience with a very very OLD Wescott body. For what it's worth.

Yeah, 20 years is nothing for a glass body. The one on my '27 is that old, and it's a simple Speedway body. After all, what is going to hurt them? Aside from some stress from flexing, the elements aren't going to do a thing to them.

Now, maybe if you let them sit outside for 20 years, in the hot sun and weather, it might dry the glass out and deform it, but that is another situation altogether.

There are indeed high quality steel and fiberglass reproduction bodies out there. Come 2007 however, only those hard-to-find original steel bodies will be celebrating a 75th annivarsary. Many of us wouldn't want to spend for an orignal with their values these days. Not to mention they usually require alot of work, almost always a chemical stripping, metal work, and tons of stick sanding. Finding one of those "barn fresh" originals is like hitting the lottery jackpot. **)

It's all in how you look at it I guess ...
The above 5 window just sold for around 25 grand. Granted that is a fair pile of cash :D but when you look at everything you get ... all at one time ... with no searching ... it is not that bad.

Fiberglass body ... 10 grand ??
original shell and insert ... 1 grand
4 fenders ... a couple of grand
original hood ... $500 up ( more, a LOT more if it was a 25 vent )
Frame ... $$$ ???
headlights, taillights, headlight bar, bumper braces, fender braces, fuel tank, frame horn covers ...

Subtract the $$$ for the stock rear and front ends and any other 32 stuff you do not use ( like cross members, pedals, radiator and the like ) ... and there is not a unsurmountable difference ... IMHO ... for a steel 32.

You have almost everything needed for a cool hot rod and the stuff fits ... unlike a lot of the repro stuff ...getting the repro stuff to fit and the freight to get it to use location at adds up ... plus the expense of tracking it down .

Everyone has their own ideas and ways ... that's why they make both Strawberry and Vanilla Ice cream. Some other favors too ... :)
