    Take a close look at the inside bore. If it has any kind of a stop, then take a measurement and compare it with how far it is going on.
    I seem to recall having a balancer once which looked like it wasn't deep enough in, so I pulled it off. It had a shoulder machined in which positively positioned it. So i put it back on and forgot about it.
