descriptions by various vendors are at the best sporatic-----------but the description that says for non-roller cams may be slanted to fact that later model roller lifter equipped engine have a smaller nose and are equipped with a thrust plate to retain the cam in its position-we used to used a front button shimmed for clearance against the front cover---now the cam may have a smaller outside diameter/bolt pattern for the gear-so its an issue of the top gear fitting the nose of the cam-----

Don't take it as gospel, but on one of the Chevy forums it said,Since yours is from 70-73 it's a Gen I flat tappet engine, unless it got an upgrade at some point along the way. You could go ahead and get into the dis-assembly and measure, then call Summit to order the gear set. Another post on the Chevy forum said that the early cams were 1.235" bolt circle. Again, just passing on what I read, so check it out before buying parts. There are two different bolt circles for the timing gear - 55-95 flat tappet cams used a wider pattern than the 87-99 roller cams.Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.
